The worst ride of my LIFE!
#1 be happy to be alive.
#2 shoes are easy to fix.
#3 be happy for wine/beer/liquor...
I haven't had as bad of a day as you, but I know how ignorant most people are when it comes to bikes.
#4 be happy to be alive...
You oughta shave those legs... that knee is going to take a while to heal. Wait until you're sober again, though :)
I'll have one for you tonight, Triphile.
Dang! That IS the ride from hell. But yes, at least youre not laying in a hospital bed. Ther are idiots everywhere, we just happen to attract them when on our bikes.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
krazyfranco: You were absolutely right, and it seemed like a good idea no matter when I did it. The wound doesn't look as hardcore as it did with all the blood, though. That's disappointing. Methinks the experience loses its effect without the gore.

I think you got it all out of the way though, you should have clear riding and good karma for at least a year after that ride...
lol, you would think so, wouldn't you, Tribro? I still can't get over it all. I think what really irks me the most is the kid with the skateboard. Who's raising these guys? I'm just going to start driving back out to the Northeast Valley again to start riding. Screw the Paradise Valley loop.

think positive - it can only get better:)
a) tri gods are unpleased in your hairy legs (but not hairy in the second picture?)
b) tri gods finally got all the prayers for people who are lucky enough to still ride outside and don't live in the north east, or as I like to call try-to-ride-but-realize-29-with-a-windchill-is-worse-then-death-ville.
"now I only have good days and great days."
well, tribro covered the karma thing - it has to swing your way now.
kakman delivered the positive mental attitude pep talk
k-franco lectured about shaving - see Dear? that's why I have to shave my legs!
I'm with blavelle, you're showing pix of your owie, and I'm thinking,
"Damn. This guy is still riding in shorts and I need six layers. I need to move to Phoenix!
It's all about perspective.
:)

btw, nice tan.

Ouch! That sucks. Ignorance is everywhere it sometimes seems. I'm lucky to have quite country roads to ride on. however as many are saying they are currently dusted in snow!
I guess I don't have to put up with that crap on the trainer! ;>
Was it a small town that you were accosted by the kids in? You can always go to the local high school and tell the principal. Won't always get results, but could make you feel better.
nice legs!
What a ride! Hopefully, as stated previously, you got all your riding adventures out of the way for next season!

Was the pathway you were on (or off), the one on Greenway Rd? I have a similar experience of people cursing me out for not using it, despite the fact it is ridden with potholes, glass or at least it was the last time I was on it. My folks live right off Cave Creek so I think I know the area you are talking about.

Base 1 (Week 2, 16.5hrs)
Check out my blog!
In the interests of a balanced universe I have to post this. After a fairly ordinary tri display yesterday I decided to go out for a gentle spin this morning.
left around 8.30 and it was hovering around 27-28 degree C. Not a breathe of wind and glorious blue skies. Didn't even take the HRM as I *knew* I was gonna cruise. Took off and the roads are empty - I mean, really empty. I'm cruising along watching the wildlife at the big park nearby and I can barely hear myself breathing.
I have absolutely no plan for where I'm going, just letting the bike take me where it will. I end up doing around 40k through some long forgotten streets of my youth, just checking out how things have changed over the past 30 years and reliving a past life.
I pop in to check on my mum (not sure whether I mentioned my dad died last week). Chatted for a while, had a drink and then rode home with a gentle breeze pushing at my back.
It's a long time since I've taken the time to 'smell the roses' on a ride but it reminded me of why I love cycling and should put the minor misery of a poor run into perspective.
Triphile I'm real sorry I took all the cycling karma this weekend, but I'm sure, in the balance of the world, it'll be your turn next week. :)

It's actually the path that runs alongside 48th Street, between McDowell and Indian School Rd.

No, no small towns around here. That's the problem with big cities: Large populations wherever you go and the anonymity that goes with it. Though I guess for folks in a small town, that could be a blessing. Another example of perspective I guess. I would, however, prefer to have the accountability that comes with a smaller population.
This will only stop me from riding in this part of town. I'll just start driving to launch from a nicer community. Easy fix. Now, if I could just get rid of the "Snowbirds," I'd know it's safe to go outside. :)

I experienced the worst ride of my life this afternoon! The only thing that did not happen was that I got hit by a car, or shot...yet.
What are the tri-gods telling me? I cross three different cities and experience this crap in each one. Where do I go?
I'm uploading pics and blogging about this later. I'm so pissed. And my knee hurts. I'm going to go try to drown in a cab/shiraz blend. The links below are to pics at my website. Out.
My knee hurts!
Damnit, now I have to fix my shoe!
It's time to start drinking.
