Is it just me ...?

Or is it common for triathletes to want to go into detail talking about their training, their strategy or their race experience ... just TRI stuff in general ?

I mean, I like the details ! I like figuring out how thick I am going to blend my endurance fuel for long rides and talking about it. Talking about the benefits of different type of brick workouts, long swims, intensity vs long & slow ...etc.

I might get my answer after reading more of Trifuel but are others like this or am I just weird in this regard

You're weird

But then again, we all are. Believe me, you are not in the minority of triathletes. I don't know if I care about how I blend my endurance fuel, but if you do and like to talk about it then more power to you.

Cool :D

Ok... I may have exaggerated a little on how much I talk about blending my fuel ... but other aspects I probably leave no detail unturned.

You saved me a visit to the shrink :)

The people in the sport tend to be a talkative bunch. We DO like to talk about ourselves and everything aboutout training. Hence the term "Tri Geek." Pretty self centered. But my job is all about helping others, so I need some time to be selfish! :D

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Yeah there are lots that do. I do... sometimes. Just depends. But when Mike and I are both in a training details mood our dinner conversations can be pretty odd :)

I think this is a fascinating aspect of being a triathlete that I've been giving a great deal of thought to recently. We live a life to support something we find very fulfilling. Its natural for us to want to share what we're thinking about related to that lifestyle, I think in part because we want others to enjoy it like we do.

I've got this whole social/lifestyle/commonality diatribe I've been concocting about this.

But my wife is tired of hearing about it.
And she's tired of hearing about how thick I blended my Accelarade.

But I bet we all get that. :D

To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!

Will all those who love to hear about someones classical Latin literature collection please raise their hand?
I thought so.
There is nothing more one dimensional than spouting about esoteric triathlon stuff to people who have no idea...and really aren't interested.
I don't talk much about it and when I do...it's to folks who know.

I couldn't agree more. Try to keep who you are talking to down to people who are actually interested. There can be nothing more annoying (in my opinion) than people who continually tell you about mundane details of what they are doing when it is something that you are not interested in.

Of course, significant other do not apply, they always need to hear the boring details of our nutrition and training.

Anton pretty much nailed it, I don't try to talk to non athletic types about triathlon unless they ask or the coversation sways in that direction and then only at a high level unless they seem to want to dig in. The best part of Trifuel is that I know the people here truly understand and support me and what I am trying to accomplish. I get quick and useful posts to my questions. Its not a slight on my friends or family, but they don't always get it. They support me and my goals and dreams and I have found that is enough without boring them with all of the details. I do concur with Dan, significants get more than they probably want. I save that for everyone here and to my knowledge, everyone is supportive of that ;-)

I'll mention things casually or if I am asked about triathlon or running then I'll get into it and then usually go into TOO much detail, as I watch their eyes glaze over.

However, I get that when I talk about most things too :D

Nothing to it, but to do it

It makes sense that triathletes would have to talk 3 times as much as people who just swim, bike, or run... There's 3 times more gear, 3 times more sport!
