I've been reading TF for a while, and I figured I'd chime in and say hello. I'm a newcomer to tris. I've done 2 this year, and I hope to do a few more next year. I am 5'10'', 260 lbs. Hopefully by next years tri season, I'll weigh less. Thanks for everyone else's helpful info. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute a little bit.

I don't think I'm in for Spud Man, maybe in 2009. I have to get a little bit less chunky before I attempt something like that.

I'll probably do Echo (early July) and maybe a few others. I think I'll even try to do the olympic distance at Echo. We'll see how much running I do this Winter.

Thanks for the posts. Everyone pray for good weather this Saturday so Captain Mal and I can get in a good long ride.

B,
SpudMan is an Olympic and it is in late july. Echo is a tough race. It is hot, the course is hard, and everyone is in shape and stuff. Not as many fatties in spandex like yours truly. If you can be ready for Echo, you will certainly be ready for Spudman three weeks later.
You might be thinking of the VikingMan. That is the Half Iron distance in early June.
Praying for sun.

by the way, that is an awesome avitar!

Chunky Dude - I'm confused. Isn't Spudman easier than Echo's olympic distance race?

Thanks. I'm pretty proud of my avatar.

Sorry, I was confusing spudman with vikingman. I knew Captain Mal was doing a Half somewhere in Idaho, so I just assumed (we all know the danger in that). Hopefully I'll be ready for spudman. There is nothing I like more than fat guys in spandex.

Hi Chunky,

I visited Provo earlier this year -- it's sooooo beautiful there. I attended a conference at BYU and enjoyed my hike to the top of the Y! You've got a great environment for training. Good luck with your tri career! :)

Yeah. Provo's a great place as long as you don't have to drive anywhere. Thanks for the reply. I hope to take advantage of the environment here, especially next summer. The winter's not the best for outdoor training here.
