I want to get myself a new bike but I want to get a used one off ebay because I am a college student and don't have tons of money. I really like the Kuota Kalibur and I was wondering if anyone could me determine which size I should get. There are no dealers in the area so I cant go try one out.
I am 6'2 and have an inseam of 33-34
should I go for a L kalibur which is 55-58 cm or a XL which is >58.
Thanks guys

Where I bought my TriBike they said a good rule of thumb was at least 2cm shorter then your road bike. Now given that didn't work out perfectly for me they said that should fit most. Do you have a place where you can any brand of TriBike just to get an idea?

Yeah there is a store that sells tri bike but would they be angry if I came in to get sized to buy a bike elsewhere

Well silly you don't tell them your not buying from them. They should do a basic sort of fit so you can test ride the appropriate bike. Before I bought my bike the store I went to did a 5 min fit thing and then checked that against their inventory, maybe it's because they sponsor our team not sure but I'd guess at the very least you could try a couple different sized tribikes to get a general idea of how they feel.

I agree that you should just test ride a few of their bikes and then buy it elsewhere if the deal is right.

However, if you live in a small town and that shop is the only one around to service your bike if it breaks down then you might want to take a road trip and test ride bikes someplace else.

Finally no one can tell you exactly what size you need because fit is different for everyone. Over time you will learn what size is right but you need to try a lot of different bikes until you figure it out.

Good luck!

I purchased a Kuota K-Factor and was surprised when my LTS put me on a small frame, rather than a medium. I would definitely concur with the suggestion that you go get fitted on a bike and test different brands out, as I did when making my purchase. It may be difficult to get to a tri/bike shop, but it needs to be accomplished somehow, especially for a new bike. Though the initial cost may be more expensive than ebay, you will find that many shops will offer future discounts on all other gear if a bike purchase is made (I get 10% off) and they will do refits at no additional charge.

I think that you should approach the shop and be honest with them. Tell them what you are looking for, and let them know you are concerned about the cost. Tell them you want to figure out what kind of bike, and what size. And let them know "well I did see one on ebay that might work well for me, and it was $x for Bike Y". I believe that a great shop will help you so that once you have the bike you'd come to them for service, other gear that you need faster than online, group rides, etc. And if they tell you to get out, then they are never going to get any business from you anyways since they aren't helpful. Comparison shopping is a part of this market.

That said, I will pay a bit more for the convenience of my local LBS, or to support them since they do a lot for my tri club. But there are other LBS's that I won't set foot in. It really depends on the business -- and as much as we all like having a friendly LBS that we turn to, it is a business and that should be kept in mind.

I think Kylie has the right approach here, though I do admit I do like messing with the local bike snob store around here. Basically if you don't ride a $3k+ bike, an avid racer, they treat you like garbage.

And knowing that about a shop near me would be enough to get me to not go there again. For any reason.
