Collegiate Nats Sign-up
hmm... temping.
I'll be there this year!
Just out of curiosity, what are the qualifications to get in?
Googles, Out.
The Battle does not always go to the stronger or faster man,
Because sooner or later the man that wins
Is the man that thinks he can.
As far as i know all you have to do is be attatched to a college team to "qualify".
I'll hopefully be there, just have to come up with the couple hundred bucks to get me and my bike out there and back.
Do you have to have a tri team at your school to compete?
Nope you don't have to have a team. A one person team is just fine.
Grrr airfare though... must raise money for my team. We are very cash crunched.
It would be sweet if my school had a team.
Maybe I'll start one next year! It would be another good thing to put on a resume, and I do know a few people who compete...
I started Whitman's team this year. If you know some people who are into it, then why not do it this year?
Hey Matt, what's the course like? Wetsuit/non-wetsuit? Hilly? flat? Rough roads? Weather?

We are going to have an awesome girls team!
Cold river water.....very wetsuit legal (well, cold to me! :D) I think it was about 70 last year.
The bike is rolling hills, but still fast. The ups are short enough that you enough momentum going into them that you don't slow down too much.
The run had several steep hills, but most of them were really short, so I'd really only call one of them a "climb". The hills were small enough of a factor that the run was actually a pretty fast course.
The roads were fine....part of the 2-loop bike course was on a highway going over the river, the rest was on a main road that runs parallel to the river. The weather started out cold (high 40s?) when we were setting up transition, but was in the 60s by the time we got on the bike and in the 70s on the run.
It was probably one of the better courses I've raced on. Very fun!! We'll be looking for the Whitman girls in April!

The river was ok, you swim out with the current then against it on the way back if I remember it right.
The bike was a blast, two loop course, get to cross a bridge, and a few decent hills.
The run had one killer hill aptly named heart break hill. The rest of the run was great, particularly the free beer from the tailgater's at the end after the finishing line.
Matt were you at any of the post race parties? Like the one that got broken up by the cops right as it was getting good?
We need to get a trifuel meet up going post race.

Yeah, Samford will be there (and cheap too, Birmingham's only an hour from the race site)! Is anybody doing the ITU style race the next day?

I was at the party at one of the hotels (I forget which one) with the octopus beer bong. :D
I don't know anything about the ITU-style race. What's the deal?

Yeah, that's ours, we're kind of a big deal lol.
Luckily that didn't have to go through airport security or I think we may have had issues, just went on our U-haul that a couple of non racing team members drove from Tucson to Tuscaloosa and back

Sunday afternoon there is some talent ID race for the 2012 Olympics there in Tuscaloosa. It's a 750m swim, 20k multi-lap draft legal bike, 5k run. It's only for U23 athletes, but there some ways you can race if you're 24-29. I can't remember the website I saw it on, but it's done through USAT, and there's a $4000 total prize purse. I think it'd be fun, I've never done a draft-legal race.
I will def. be there, several of us from North Texas will. Looking forward to it.
So, in order to be "attached" to a team, is the registration on active.com sufficient, considering that my school doesn't have a team?

It starts today.....don't forget to register. :D
