well its offcially the off-season for me (even though I only did one sprint which was my first ever). basically I looked like a dying fish out there but when I got out of the water I did pretty well, to remedy this I joined my highschool swim team (coach is an ironman) to help me with technique/speed. All is going great and I've even been able to swim up to 2 miles nonstop freestyle. The only problem I forsee with this is swim season usually runs until early february and I am looking to do my first half iron in may. I've been road biking (cat 4) for around 3 years now completing several centuries and can hold my own running. Will I have enough time to train for the half? basically I have from the middle of february to may 4th (NJ devilman) to work on my run endurance and racing on a tri bike. basically my question is:

7-10 weeks enough time to be able to run a respectable half marathon and build a decent cycling base?

"now I only have good days and great days."

Thats a ton of time to train for a half ironman. Remember in your first crack at any event you dont aim to show up race Chris Lieto for the winners medal and set an age group record. Your first race aim should be to finish, enjoy the experience and learn as much as you can from what goes right and wrong.

You most important qualities are enthusiasm and consistent training which it sounds like you have, so pay that entrance fee and get out there
