Clicking behind knee

It mostly occurs whenever I bike, in my left leg as I pedal down. Every down stroke is a click/pop. There is not much pain just minor discomfort and I do not wish it to progress into something worse. I asked other riders about this and they said they have experienced it as well. I can feel it sometimes when I walk but I have no clue it is there when I run or swim. Any ideas or experience with something like this? Strength training or stretching? Saddle/cleat/crank? Thanks!

I had discomfort on one knee in the past because of the cycling shoes I was wearing (believe it or not) but if I had a clicking like you do now I would check with my doctor.

You never know if it could be something big that you could prevent by checking it early.

Agree with Tikal Dog on seeking med advice. The most likely cause of these symptoms is 'snapping' of your hamstrings tendon. There are several which run to the lateral (outside) and medial (inside) aspects of the knee. Occasionally these will snap over the tibia medially or the fibula laterally and cause a mechanical snap. Usually this is not painful but can be annoying. If it occurs over many repititions it can cause inflammation over the tendon fatpads behind the knee. Often if you "rotate' your knee slightly, ie turn the foot in or out the feeling will go away. Stretching helps
