Aid stations?

I'm doing a half in a couple weeks and just found out that the aid stations are serving Hammer Gel and Accelerade, both of which do not sit well with my stomach. Right now, my plan is to carry a few Power Gels and endurolytes with me on the run and just take water at the aid stations, but I can only carry two gels and plan on taking three during the run. I'd prefer to do something else, though. Gatorade would be ideal. Any suggestions? Carrying a bottle of gatorade with me isn't an option (even on a belt). Thanks, guys!

for my 2 IM races I carried a gel flask in my pocket of my tri top with my own gels so I could just grab that and have it for the run and not have to deal with a bunch of packets. This would get you the number of gels you want. Most shorts have space for one as well as tops. Since its only a half (and I dont mean "only", you know what I mean) , you can get by with the gels and water. Other than a fuel belt I don't have a suggestion for that :(

Stick a flas in your pocket. A real flask- just enough high quality booze to let you fight through the pain. I dunno why you have a storage limitation as far as carrying gels, but tape the third gel to your race belt with electric tape.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

My new suit has really little pockets, which is actually an improvement over my Gator suit that had none. I'm not even sure if they'll even hold a single gel packet. Have you tried the electric tape before? Does it really hold?

I use a race number belt with elastic loops for gel packets. You get a gel bandolier effect. It's great if you don't have to wear the bib number while riding.

I havent used it on my race belt, but use it on my bike for Oly and shorter. I'd imagine you could macguyver up something, Mr. Engineer. I have faith in UF's engineering dept education.

I know a guy that tucks a gel into the lower leg of his tri-shorts... He says that the little leg stays on the bottom keep it from ever falling out... I don't know that I would do it, but it's a thought.

I've tried electrical tape to hold gels to a belt before, and it worked.

During a half marathon I put a gel in the lower leg of my compression shorts, and it worked also. At first it was great, then when I started sweating, it felt like the gel was falling, but it wasn't. I kept adjusting it at first to make sure. Before the race, my concern was that it would rub a blister or something, but it didn't.

As for your Gatorade, I've never used a Camel Pack, but I've seen people with them in a road race. I always though they were for hiking and long military type marches. Check these out:

I think if you have to use any tape, Duck Tape would hold up better than Electrical Tape.

I think I might be going the duct tape route. It really does hold the universe together, you know. I think I'll just be toughing it out with the accelerade. I bought $20 worth of those stupid bottles last night. After 4 hours of training this morning, the only real problem was that it made me sweat ammonia (pretty gross, but I felt fine). I guess the lower-intensity stuff of long course racing makes my stomach more able to handle the protein. Thanks, guys!

are you wearing like a one peice suit? i do shorts and a shirt and just tuck the gels in around mt waist. I have done 13 miles runs with that technique with 3-4 gels and its always worked fine for me. I also tuck them in my shorts on the ride. Warms them up so they go down easier too.

Duct tape holds TOO well. Thats the appeal of electric tape.

I've done the gel up the short leg thing, they just come out on me. Fortunately its always been at a sprint, where I would just have em for a little boost. For olys, theyre electric taped to the top tube.

I always use the electrical tape on the top tube for olys, too. I'll dork it up and wear a race belt for a couple training runs and see how the two kinds of tape work out since now I can't decide again.

Fanatic--yeah, it's a one-piece.
