Interesting. I wonder how many more Specialized bikes we will see next year :-).

An interesting note: from what I've heard, it is just a count of those brands -- they don't count all of them, just ones decided on ahead of time. For example, I 5 or 6 PlanetX Bikes, but they aren't in the list.

It would be interesting to see the counts from each year. That would let you note how bikes are increasing and decreasing in popularity.

But its interesting regardless. I'm surprised Cervelo is so high!

Sully, somewhat of an answer to you question.

It was no surprise that Cervelo won the bike count by such a large margin. The only question on the minds of those representing competing bike brands was exactly how badly Cervelo would rout the competition.
As bad as it was, it could've been worse. Cervelo's 26 percent is still below the 31 percent that brand recently polled in our survey, when our readers were asked what bike they intend to buy next. Cervelo could top 400 bikes in the field next year, and all this run-up without a top gun in the race since the Steve Larsen era.

The big surprise was Kuota, up into a tie for second with Trek. For all the hype about QR and Felt, Kuota quietly came close to doubling its totals from last year.

Meanwhile, QR came close to halving its totals. Typically a brand can go out of business and still keep 75 percent, or at least two-thirds, of its bikes from a year before. You almost have to forcibly pull the bikes out from under riders in order to see this amount of decrease.

Also note that Cervelo has several tri bikes that people can buy (P3, P2, dual) whereas most other companies are only offering one, occasionally two. If they did a comparison of bike models, the cervelos would probably be much more in line with the others. I'm sure that the bikes would still be near the top, though, just not by as much of a margin as the list suggests.

Good point Gator never thought of that.

QR has several different tri models. Trek has several tri models. I think Kuota has 2. Felt also has several models.

Trek has the equinox and ttx (just two, I think), Felt has the B2 and DA (same bike) and s32 (basically two models), and I guess you got me on the QR. Cervelo has 3 distinctly different models. I'm not saying that they'll have the same numbers, but the statistics of that particular list are skewed. For example, Scott and Cannondale each have one bike, so where they have 89 and 75 bikes each, there might have been 200 P2s (WAG....not good for statistics, but it illustrates the point). There might be twice as many Cervelos as Scotts and Cannondales instead of 4x as many. My point is that the list doesn't tell the whole story. Someone might look at it and think, "Wow, look at all those Cervelos....I need a $6k on a P3!" when actually there were 100 $1500 Duals. The list would be more meaningful if they tallied bikes instead of brands.

I don't disagree there Gator from a statistics perspective, but the other bike companies should take notice and offer more choices with varying price entry points. If I had to make a guess, I would think that there would be more of the higher end Cervelos at Kona only because of the level of compitition partipating in the race - I.e, because of the qualifying standards you don't see as many newbies on entry level bikes.
