I don't know very much about women's bikes. My sister has been doing triathlons with me now, and she is interested in getting a new bike. She wants an "intro tri-bike" and is looking to spend less then 1300.

She has a road bike now, but it's an old Cannondale and she's training to do a HIM next summer with me. I don't think that old clunker could go another 30 miles without breaking down, at least it looks like that, and she definitely needs to a new ride. The question is, which one. Any suggestions?

You can probably find one discounted to drop a couple hundred dollars.

EDIT: In fact, heres an 06 for $1200. http://bikecenterusa.com/itemdetails.cfm?id=649&catalogId=39

I think Giant also has some women specif tri bikes and road bikes. You might be able to find a deal looking for year end closeout deals in your area or online

Since fit is the most important thing in picking a tri bike, I'd take her to somewhere that she can try the bikes and see which ones fit her well and which ones she likes. Then go from there to find one used in your price range if you need to.

I find that women's bikes aren't always a great fit for me as I have a longer torso compared to my leg length, so even if a girl it doesn't mean those bikes will fit her well -- or that the ones from different companies will fit the same.

Kylie has a point there. My wife doesn´t use a womens bike either. She uses a male bike and fits great.

A used bike would be a good idea cause you might get a better equiped bike than you would a new one with that budget. But again....the bike would have its miles on.

I think Trek also handles a basic Equinox and their warranty policy is great.

Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)

My girlfriend also does not fit women specific bikes. Its definately important to shop around for the best fit.

As far as specific bikes- you're really not going to find a tri bike around $1300 anymore- except maybe the lower level Felt. Prices went up for '08. So youre gonna have to find a '07 on sale, or buy a roadie. Just getting into tris? I would be more inclined to buy the roadie.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
