I need some suggestions for a nice pair (not too nice, my 808s are far from paid off) of wheels to train on. the wheels i took of my old trek 1000 are finally cashed and i wanted to see what you guys were using. thanks

I use Mavic Aksium. They aren't the best for competition but I needed a set that I didn't have to worry so much if they got trashed. Inexpensive, maybe $250 for the set. For races I use my Zipps and notice a big difference between the two, gives me a little psychological boost on race day.

+1 Mavics are probably the most common wheel for training. I run the Equipes.

I have heard good thing about the Neuvation wheels. I have also heard that the same manufacturer makes the Forte Titan wheels for Performance makes the Neuvation wheels. After a quick visual inspection, this looks like it may have some validity to it. Also both sets of wheels experienced rear wheel hub failures regularly until there was a redesign of the rear wheel hub simultaneously by both manufacturers. The reason I bring this up is that the Titans run much cheaper than the Neuvation wheels, and I believe that the same wheel manufacturer makes them for both companies.

I just purchased a set of Mavic Aksium. From what I hear, this is the wheel that Mavic is having made over in China to bring costs down. Performance is having a pretty good deal on a set of them right now. I have yet to try them but I have heard they are good wheels for the price. As long as I don't eat the lead paint on them, I should be fine. :D

i may have experienced the hub problem, but i brushed it off and figured it was due to the fact that i am 6'5" 210. two spokes on the drive side pulled out of the flange. john neugent sent me a new wheel free of cost/shipping with a stronger drive side flange.

Neuvations work well for me, especially because my college team is sponsored by them and I get a 40% discount!;)
