:o Ok-I know this is kinda personal-but does anyone notice that when they are training really hard that their sex drive goes down? I am normally and every day or every other day kinda chic and for the last 2 months-the end of the season for me and 4 final races-my drive has been soooo low. I mean if my man goes for it I am game but otherwise I have no desire to go after it!!! Is this normal?
Thanks in advance!

After a long day of work, squeezing in a masters swim practice or run, the last thing I want is sex. Give me a back rub while I fall asleep please!!!
No wonder your sex drive is low....I only have one kid and I can barely stay awake to read him a book at bedtime...

While most won't admit it it...Many men feel the same on a heavy training schedule...It's normal. My wife tells me it's normal for her too...we talk and work things out...
btw...you have my utmost respect for training AND having 6 kids...or is fussing with that mob part of your training?;)

I think Anton is right in saying that low sex drive and training is definitely not a woman specific problem...

I think anyone that says they are going to be in the mood for it after a 30+ hour training week is kidding themselves. And props to anyone who can do it after a century ride......

Ah, to be 25 or 26 again...(wistful smile)
Get back to me if you're still doing this in your 30's, or 40's or 50's...add in a mortgage, and 6 kids like like trimomof6 and we'll see who's still "prowling." (good natured ribbing)

I hope the only prowling I'll have to do at that point in life is with my wife. But until I have one of those, I will prowl on, just for you, Anton. :D

Whats the point of living forever if you have to stop your prowling at some point? Even if all your prowling is for your significant other, the chase is still fun.

The day I can't do that, take me out back and put me out of my misery.[/machismo of youth] :D

I can understand the problem, though. With all of your energy focused on your training and workouts it would very likely affect your sex drive. You could always work it into your training schedule as a "core workout with intervals" ;)

I've tried convincing girls that sex is good cardio. I think they get turned off when I pause to put on the HRM.

You're right - endurance training cuts the hormone output way down, whereas intense muscular effort - such as sprints, weights, - brief, intense efforts - stimulate testosterone and sex hormone production. So Sprints are good for your sex drive, ironmans, not so much.

Ironic that educators of a hundred years ago sought to introduce young men to athletics as a substitute for sexual activity! Instead, it actually produces dramatically higher levels of sex hormones.

After 30? 40? 50? the effect is less dramatic, and individual differences do matter.

I remember one elite triathlon couple - I don't remember who - Erin and Scott? PNF and Huddle? Lori and Peter? when interviewed and asked about their sex drive during long bouts of base and build for Ironman - merely laughed at the question!

The woman said something like, "After a six hour ride and a ten-mlie brick all I want is food and sleep!

You take it off in the first place?

Anyway,

After training or an event I can see being too tired but I am usually okay, and the day after I think it is a great 'recovery' workout! :D

But seriously...I just read an article about loss of sex drive as we get older...It's not a terrible situation, providing you and your partner talk about it. It's the same for those of us who exercise a bunch (AND who might be old-ish). As POC said it is an individual thing but not something I think you need to feel quilty about...as long as you are communicating.

Wow thanks y'all for all the responses. Good to know it just isn't me!
Yes I am a mom of 6 kids ages 10,9,8,7,6,and 4.
No-I am not worried about having another LOL we have "fixed" that-six is plenty.
Being a Mom is my primary job along with teaching group fitness classes and being a personal trainer. I usually train myself 3ish hours a day 6 days a week on top of that-I am currently competing mostly in Olympic Distance Tri's.
My husband just got into tri's after we had some tri-dys-function and completed 2 sprints and 1 olympic this year. He only had the decreased drive when he first started training.
-A comment about the HRM-we have both worn them while"getting busy" before just outta curiousity-I peaked out at 182 bpm LOL-what a great workout!
Thanks again gals and guys!

I learned many important things in my fraternity in college. Among many wise adages is the following:

"If you don't remember, it didn't happen (unless she was hot)"

So if I don't remember the anniversaries, I'm not getting older anyway. Guess I'll just have to settle for bad sex with sorority girls for the rest of my life. :(

I like that everyone is talking about the loss of sex drive as a bad thing. I find that endurance training keeps me out of trouble when i go out to the bars. I can actually make decisions about women using my mind. Its a weird thing i know. It's new to me too. So far its been a positive thing though.

I would say that now you are normal! Everyday or even every other day is definitely not normal. At least not around my house. Objection! Uh, your honour, is there a question for the T-Fuel women anytime in our future?

The question currently before the court is, roughly speaking, does the amount of triathlon training you undertake affect your sexual appetite and, if so, how?

The State requests more testimony from the distaff half of the community.
