:D Hello everyone! Fairly new to triathlons....Just did my first 4 this summer. I would like to complete an Olympic tri in the summer of 08. Always looking for people to train with locally. Would love to find a female training partner in the Montgomery county, PA area. There always seems to be an abundance of males willing to train....wonder why?? :)

Well I'm somewhat your neighbor, Gwen! I live in Exton in the summer and Bethlehem during the school year. I take 663 back and forth so I pass right by at least.

Welcome to the site!:)

One of my fav bike routes runs along 663. Mucho hilly! Are you still in school or do you teach?

Hi Gwen,

Welcome!

I live in Montgomerville, very close to the mall. I know exactly how you feel, all my training partners are guys! I am always looking for female training partners. My big race in 2008 will be IMLP, which will be my 2nd IM.

Definitely think about the Philly Tri in June, great race. Registration opens on 11/1 and it fills up fast.

JRH - I work right around the corner from you in Plymouth Meeting

I'm on the fence about the philly tri it's great race but I hate crowds in the swim and bike. but then again it's a great race.

Wow, small world is right! Her initials aren't BS are they?

Right now I am starting to taper for the Philly Marathon 11/19.

Will start training for IMLP after the holidays. I am doing something new with this IM, I've hired a coach who I will begin working with in Dec. I've got high expectations of myself for IMLP and thought I would definitely benefit with more structured workouts.

Yep, I did IMMOO in 2006. Loved every minute of it, despite the crappy weather.

Yeah, if people only stayed to the right it would make life much easier and faster during the Philly Tri. But I love the bike course!

Yep, I posted my report on trinewbies.com after the race.

Wow, your right, I just checked the race is sold out. Times have changed, the first time I ran it was in 1996, and there may had been 1500 runners if that.

Small world again, my office is located right off on Walton Rd. (on Fountain Drive) pretty much directly across from the community park. A lot of people here in the office hit the park during lunch.

I think it's the half that is the problem. It really makes the first half pretty crowded IMHO anyway.

I think we planning on burning off halloween candy tomorrow around lunch time. I will be the square headed guy with a astrix for an eyeball.

Yeah, there were some logistic problems last year as to where the turn off was for the 1/2 marathon racers.

I would prefer that the 1/2 would start after the full and they run the last 13.1 instead of the first. The Baltimore Marathon does it this way and I found it very benefical during the last few miles.

Yeah, your going to love the Philly Tri ... great course and great fan support!! Once you've conquered this one, think about the Steeman Tri which is in mid Aug. in Lake Nockamixon. Another great race.

hmmm, I've done Catfish triathlon in Harrisburg the last 2 years and its the same weekend as Steelman. I would love to do Steelman because I've heard only good things, so I might make the switch this year.

I'm going to do the half iron distance at Black Bear in the beginning of June. Then Philly Tri at the end of June, probably Anthracite in the middle of July and Steelman and a few other sprints in August. Sounds like a lot of us will have similar schedules!

it's not up yet but typically mid-july. lake swim, hilly bike but a very nice long downhill then hilly partial trail run. it's a smaller race but I thought it was done well

I've heard only good things about Black Bear. CGI races have always been top notch from my experience. Definitely doing this one in 2009. For me in June, I am doing Eagleman 1/2 IM in Cambridge, MD and then Tinman (Tupperlake) 1/2 IM in NY.

Anyone else doing these two 1/2 IM in June?

Black Bear was a good race last year. Lots of hills.

The director of Steelman told me they are putting a limit on the number of participants this year. It is growing too quickly. It is a great course and is very well organized.

There is also the Enduro Sport HIM and mini in September, also at Nockamixon.

If the Anthracite is in July this summer I might give that one a try.

Not surprised on the Steelman participant limit. The bike course was insanely crowded and the run on the path made it difficult to pass due to the number of participants.

Thanks for the heads up!

you just listed my schedule except for the endurosport half in sept! we should have a trifuel NEPA get together at one of these races.

how does the endurathon quakerman course compare to IMLP's bike course? just curious from those of you in the know.
thanks

There are no real sustained climbs in the Quakerman. Long inclines and rollers along with one steep 1/2 mile climb. I have not done IMLP, but I believe there are more significant uphill sections. There may be an elevation chart on the website.

I have not done Quakerman, but i have done Lake Placid IM twice. The bike is probably the hardest bike and run of any IM that I know. You cannot hammer the first loop of LP or it will eat you up for the second.
