I think there's a fair number of us doing it. I thought there was another thread on it but can't find it. I'll be there, triNick, Psychosyd, mgetting, and some others. I posted a event page on endurable to try and track a couple have posted there as well (http://endurable.us/event/624).

ya, getting anxious myself. also wish it was sooner. November is a little late for me living here. It's been cold, rainy, and windy for weeks making some of my longer sessions tough. Not too mention the fog coming off the pool. someday's I can't even see the other end of the 25 meters ;) crazy but at least I'm ready for any kind of weather....

I know, I know, these last 2-3 weeks is a killer, waiting and tapering... The weather here in Minneapolis has been horrible, it's rained during some portion of the day 16 out of 18 days. I'm sick of doing heavy duty cleaning on my bike after every ride.

Wow, swimming outdoors, that would be fun, all of the outdoor pools here closed at the end if August here.

Outdoor pools? Up here in Canada those are very rare! The only fog I get is in my goggles!:> Are they saline (salt water) pools?

I can think of two common answers from her, both 'rated R', and nearly opposite in meaning. I guess it all depends on how much I helped with laundry/dishes that day! ;)

Well I've never heard of a saline pool, so I can't imagine they are very common!

Sometimes they use a salt water solution in combination with other less potent chemicals. This makes the water a lot less harsh than with chlorine. I have swam in a few of them in Florida, and they are very nice!

Not sure if you all have been paying attention, but last I checked the water temp was 79 degrees. Wetsuits won't be legal above 76 degrees.

I'm getting anxious too. The weather up here in Chicago has been pretty good, but I've been limited on my rides due to work...damn job getting in the way.

We still have two weeks to drop three degrees... but it looks like it may be close!

Perhaps warmer water temps might also come with air temps that don't require arm warmers and knee warmers (wishful thinking?)

I wouldn't really mind if they don't allow wetsuits. I'm not a great swimmer, in my previous IM I swam it in 1:17, but all I found was that my shoulders tired quicker. I have the entry level Orca, so maybe that's why.

Either way, I'd gladly swap the wetsuit for a nice 80 degree day.

It looks like it is coming down. 78.3 degrees right now. Here's the website. Of course, I have NO IDEA where they take the temps from.

I'm more worried about the jellyfish than the temps! I can't imagine them letting not letting us wear suits with the problems they have had in the past with them.

ANyone got numbers yet?

Jellyfish... Hmm...

If the water temp is too warm for wetsuits (77 degrees this morning:mad: ) then perhaps all the wetsuit strippers can become 'first aid techs' of a sort and pee on people who get stung. :D

--- I'm not sure that this is a real cure anyways.

Is it above 76 or above 78? Hmm.

I believe it is 78 and below, if this is the case we are good with wearing wetsuits. The temp right now is 77.4 degrees. Some people were able to see Eagle Rays swimming right below them in the clear water. I just do not wish to see any large fins above the water line.

From USAT rules (which I believe is what is used at IMFL)

4.4 Wet suits. Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The wetsuit policy for elite athletes shall be determined by the USAT Athletes Advisory Council.

I am with the rest of you on the wetsuits, hopefully it will work out for us. I've never done a race in saltwater so how bad is it with the sea creatures. Has anyone every had trouble? What do jellyfish do, just sting you like a bee or are you done if they get you?
As far as the "large fin type", I really hope not. I am sure I look like a seal in distress with my wetsuit on:) but I think the divers below keep in eye out for us.

Just usually multiple bee type stings where the tentacle will wrap itself around a limb. Don't stress too much. THey aren't really bad, just more of an annoyance. Just another thing you don't want to be worried about!

Hey Yodi,
I was just kidding about the fins in the water, you will do fine. As far as the Jellyfish go you will be protected by any area covered by the wetsuit. Do not fear, the only main jellyfish to worry about is the Portuguese Man-O-War which has not been seen in that area and that close to shore in a very long time.

I think they would prefer to have the 1800 - 2000 participants use a wetsuit for safety reasons, let's just see what happens.

Well, it's official now, I'm number

during a race once I was swallowed by a big fish, but he spit me out three days later. Really just a minor headache, no big deal... it's not unheard of.

And... #390 ... that's me.

Anybody brave enough to post there time goal? I'm a firm believer in putting them out there as motivation. My goal is 12.5 hours. That would shave a full hour off of IMUK last year.

Yeah, I understand that 10:30 is pretty ambitious. That represents my 'best case' goal. But there are just too many variables for me to make an educated guess.

Dropped bike off at local bike shop for Tri-Bike Transport to transport bike to race site. Fully assembled and will transport bike back to whence it came. That's it, until I pick it up on Wednesday at the race site.

My forecast agrees with tribro's, so I'm wishing for that too, but I do see TS Noel lurking around below Florida....

I'm flying down Tuesday and hoping to swim Wed, Thurs, and maybe Fri - so I'm up for meeting up for a swim on Thurs....
