ITU President, Les McDonald, inducted into Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame

VANCOUVER - The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has announced they will induct International Triathlon Union (ITU) president, Les McDonald, into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame during their annual gala dinner in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 21st. McDonald is being recognized as a “Builder” for his tireless work for the Olympic sport of Triathlon.

Lisk and Hauss win African Cup opener

LANGEBAAN - It was veteran Ricarda Lisk of Germany and a surprised David Hauss of France who claimed first place at the 2007 season’s first African Cup today in Langebaan, South Africa.

In the women’s race, Lisk was able to use her experience and superior running skills to edge out Lisa Norden of Sweden and Juri Ide of Japan for the gold medal. Norden and Ide finished second and third, respectively.

Mutscheller and Post crowned as Winter Triathlon World Champions

FLASSIN - Sigrid Mutscheller of Germany and Arne Post of Norway are the 2007 ITU Winter Triathlon World Champions. The two athletes ran, cycled and skied their way to victory in less than perfect race conditions in Flassin-Saint Oyen, Italy today.

Mutscheller continues her dominance of the sport taking her fifth world championship title, and fourth in a row, in a time of 1:53:24. Austrian Carina Wasle finished second, 2 minutes and 38 seconds back with a time of 1:56:02. Local Italian favourite, Michela Benzoni finished third a further 22 seconds back with a time 1:56:24.

The 2007 Winter Triathlon Championships have Arrived

FLASSIN - This weekend Flassin-Saint Oyen, Italy will play host to the 2007 ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships. Hundreds of winter enthusiasts from 23 countries will visit the mountain town in the Italian Alps to represent their nation in the eleventh edition of the run, cycle and ski event.

Africa to benefit from ITU Regional Coaching Course

VANCOUVER - Stellenbosch, South Africa will host an ITU Competitive Triathlon Coaching and Facilitator’s Course for a group of regional coaches from April 19th to 24th. The International Triathlon Union (ITU) and their global partner BG Group have jointly arranged the course in order to raise the number and quality of triathlon coaches across African confederation members. The ultimate goal is to assist in the development of talented coaches and the national coaching education programmes of African countries.
