STOLTZ, VAN HUYSSTEEN WIN NINTH-ANNUAL XTERRA SOUTH AFRICA CHAMPIONSHIP IN GRABOUW

February 26, 2012 - Conrad "the Caveman" Stoltz and Carla Van Huyssteen captured the ninth-annual Totalsports XTERRA South Africa Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT on a 'stunning day' at the Grabouw Country Club in the Western Province.

The victory is Stoltz fifth at XTERRA South Africa but first since 2007, and the first for fellow South African Van Huyssteen, who finished third at this race a year ago. Of note, the last time Stoltz opened the season with a win in his home country he finished the season with his third of four XTERRA World Championships.

ITU selects Technical Officials for triathlon competition at London 2012

Vancouver, Canada (20 February 2012) - The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is pleased to announce the 42 Technical Officials who will oversee and officiate the triathlon competition at the London Olympic Games. The selected officials hail from a record number of nations, with 25 different countries represented, three more than at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Since Beijing 2008, the selected group of technical officials has overseen a combined 190 events at the ITU World Triathlon Series, World Championships and World Cups.

Registration Open for the San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz

MONTEREY, CA (February 17, 2012) – Tri-California Events, today announced registration is now open for the 2012 San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz.

The International Distance Triathlon is set to begin Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 7:00 a.m. PST, where athletes will jump from a boat in the San Francisco Bay, positioned just off the shores of the island of Alcatraz (1.2 miles).

Avia Wildflower will again serve as USA Triathlon qualifier for ITU Long Distance World Championship

The 30th Anniversary AVIA Wildflower Long Course Triathlon will be held on May 5 in central California, and the top five in each amateur age group will be eligible for Team USA for the 2012 ITU Long Distance World Championships to be held July 29 in beautiful Vitoria-Gasteiz, located in the heart of Basque country in northern Spain. If any competitors in the top five choose not to take part in the Team USA contingent competing in Spain, USA Triathlon will roll down as far as 10th place to round out the team.

Challenge Wanaka announces new bike course as 2013 entries open

LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (February 13, 2012) – Entries opened today for the world’s most scenic iron distance triathlon, Challenge Wanaka in New Zealand’s South Island, which takes place on 19 January 2013. With early bird prices frozen at NZ$495 for individuals and NZ$650 for teams it remains Australasia’s best value long distance race.

Today’s entries going on sale coincides with the announcement that the tough Challenge Wanaka cycle course will change from a single lap to two lap course for 2013, cutting out the long wind-affected loop around Lake Dunstan.

Lance Armstrong Foundation Partners with Ironman

Today, the Lance Armstrong Foundation announces a new partnership with Ironman to help raise more than $1 million for people affected by cancer. Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor, champion cyclist and the Foundation's founder and chairman, will compete as a professional athlete in several Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races including Ironman 70.3 Panama, Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas, Ironman 70.3 Florida, Ironman 70.3 Hawaii and Ironman France. Armstrong is racing with the goal of qualifying for the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, on Oct.
