ZURICH – JAN. 22, 2013 – On, the innovative new Swiss running shoes that have been on the feet of champion runners worldwide since 2010, has signed Lesley Paterson to an endorsement deal that will see the 2-time XTERRA World Champion wear the new high-tech shoes exclusively through 2014.
“We welcome Lesley to the On team that includes an impressive line-up of world champions,” says Olivier Bernhard, a former 3x World Duathlon Champion, 6-time Ironman Champion and Co-Founder of On. “Like the dozens of champions and thousands of runners worldwide who have experienced the unique On running sensation, Lesley will find running in the On more fun.”
Known as “The Scottish Rocket,” this native of Scotland may be small but she packs a mean punch. Not only does she dominate in XTERRA races, but she's also an accomplished Ironman triathlete, as demonstrated by her victory at Mooseman 70.3 in 2011. Lesley is scheduled to compete in 14 XTERRA races, triathlons and Ironman 70.3 events in the 2013 season. For more information on Lesley, visit www.LesleyPaterson.com. “As soon as I put these running shoes on I was blown away,” said Lesley. “They are responsive and a smooth ride. They transfer power nicely off the ground yet are very light. I'm excited to throw down some great run times with them on and off-road.”
Earlier this year teamTBB, the world's premiere triathlon team, chose On after several of its leading athletes including Caroline Steffen (SUI), David Dellows (AUS) and Daniel Halksworth (UK) saw dramatic improvements in their running times and Ironman victories in the On. Some of the other world champions running the On include XTERRA Champion Ben Allen (AUS), triathlete David Hauss (FRA) and marathon legend and United Nations Ambassador of Sport and Peace Tegla Loroupe (KEN). In addition to teamTBB, two professional cycling teams, Drapac (AUS) and Quick-Step (GER), wear the On for training and post-race recovery.
How does On's patented CloudTec® system work?
The human body has been made to run barefoot. Not on hard surfaces, though. That's why On's patented CloudTec® system anticipates what human foot evolution has not yet achieved since streets were invented.
The On sole features a number of three-dimensional elements or “Clouds” made of highly flexible tubular pieces of rubber. With this radically new design, the sole absorbs both vertical and horizontal forces to ensure a soft landing. Once the foot is on the ground, the Clouds lock firm, providing a solid foundation for a powerful push-off. The On shoe thus combines what conventional running shoes have so far failed to unite: a cushioned landing and a barefoot takeoff. It's like stepping down on sand and pushing off on a running track!
On wearers experience a light and fast run and enjoy all the positives of natural running without any compromise in comfort and speed. The Clouds act like small stability balls, responding to every movement of the foot. Athletes and their coaches report increased muscle activation, reduced risk of injury and shortened recovery times.
There's scientific evidence, too: independent studies by Zurich's reputed Federal Institute of Technology have shown that On's patented CloudTec® system significantly reduces athletes' heart rate and lactic acid levels.
Who is On?
On Inc. is a young Swiss Zurich-based sports company with a simple mission. The team of sports scientists and running enthusiasts around world-class athlete Olivier Bernhard (triple world champion and six-times Ironman winner) strives to elevate running to a sport that's not just healthy but fun, too.
The On running shoe has already earned the prestigious ispo Brand New Award for Sports Innovation, and continues to win technology and design prizes all over the globe. The CloudTec® system is protected by worldwide patents. And just two years after their market launch, On shoes are available at more than 500 specialist running retailers in 18 countries in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
About On Co-Founder Olivier Bernhard
Olivier Bernhard's spectacular 15-year career was highlighted by six Ironman wins, three duathlon world championship titles and the third-fastest Hawaii Ironman split ever (2:41). But, as with many runners, pain in his Achilles tendons forced him to retire. Right after leaving competitive racing, Bernhard developed a first prototype of the On with Swiss engineers; and he knew already that his new destiny was to develop the shoe and bring true scientific innovation to running.
