NATIONALS’ BOUND: The first round of invitations to compete in the 2006 Nissan Xterra USA Championship race in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on October 1st were sent out this week to a select few racers that have assured their qualification by securing max-points in their division. The list is a virtual who’s-who in amateur XTERRA racing with names like Kalyn English, Jeremy Chandler, Courtney Cardenas, and reigning national champions David Cloninger, Tom Lyons, Kent Robison, as well asXTERRA World Champion Peter Wood.
Cloninger has had a particularly fantastic season so far, having dropped to his knees after crossing the finish line at the Nissan Xterra West Championship in Temecula, CA and proposing to his girlfriend. She said yes and they tied the knot a month later at the Solstice Triathlon in La Grande, OR. For their honeymoon they ventured to France and caught a couple stages of the Tour de France. Defending his 35-39 Title in Tahoe is his next goal.
