8 November 2006.....The Royal Windsor Triathlon has once again won the 'Event of the Year' award for a remarkable seventh year at the 2006 annual British Triathlon awards.
The awards, voted for by the British Triathlon Association's members, have beaten off strong competition from around the country to secure Windsor's position as the UK's best multi-sport event.
Inaugurated in 1991 by leading multi sport organisers Human Race, Royal Windsor Triathlon is one of its flagship events which sees over 2,500 athletes compete. In addition, this award winning event hosted the 2006 British National Elite Championships attracting many of the country's leading elite triathletes, including 2006 ITU World Champions Tim Don and Will Clarke (U23).
Attracting all levels of ability from beginners to elite athletes, the event, comprising swimming, cycling and running, is most enjoyed for its unique course, striking scenery, impeccable organisation and friendly atmosphere. It is these qualities that put Windsor at the top of the list for the entire field of hard working athletes and sees them return year after year.
Human Race Founder and Event Director, John Lunt, commented: "We are delighted to receive this award for the 7h year. It is a tribute to all the hard work and dedication that the Human Race team puts into its organisation to ensure spectators and competitors alike can enjoy the race to the full. We'd like to thank the people of Windsor and Eton, all the sponsors that have supported us, volunteers and the athletes who each contribute to making the race such a success."
The event offers an Olympic and Sprint distance course; the 1500 / 750m swim takes place in the majestic River Thames, the 40 / 30km bike journeys through picturesque
Berkshire villages and Windsor's Great Park and the 10 / 5km run winds through the scenic town centre that takes in Eton Bridge and Eton College, all against the stunning backdrop of Windsor Castle.
Paul Roach, Windsor Town Centre Manager commented, "It is a superb event for the area. The sporting spectacle brings thousands of people into the town and this, together with the TV coverage, shows Windsor as a world class venue."
The 2007 Human Race Royal Windsor Triathlon takes place on Sunday 17 June and is set to continue its sell out success. Entry forms are available from www.humanrace.co.uk
The next Human Race event is the ASICS Kingston Breakfast Run, held on Sunday 1April 2007 with 8 and 16 mile distances on offer.
