High Profile Swedish Relay Team Signs up for Nevada Silverman
HENDERSON, Nev. - October 30, 2006 - Frank Lowery, of Lowery's Multisport Races announced today that another professional relay team has registered for the Nevada Silverman Triathlon. The R&A/FIT Multisports Team, proudly presented by Cervelo and Blue Seventy has entered the Silverman Relay vying for the Centra 100K prize! The Team will consist of three of Sweden's fastest triathletes.
The Silverman is offering a $100,000.00 prize purse to the first combination relay team that can break the 8-hour mark on the course. The Nevada Silverman is a full-distance triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile swim; 112-mile bike and 26.2 mile run held annually in Henderson, Nevada.
The relay will start off with Jonas Colting, Ultraman World Champion who has also been a runner up in Ironman New Zealand, as well as the ITU World Championships. Jonas is easily capable of a 46-minute 2.4-mile swim.
The "Bear" Bjorn Andersson, easily the most feared cyclist in triathlon, will carry out the next leg. Bjorn is enjoying a very successful 2006 season with wins at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon as well as a course record win at the Timberman 70.3 putting 13 minutes into 2nd place on the bike winning by more than 11 minutes in the end! Bjorn is well known for cycling abilities and has been doing bike specific training for the past month and a half preparing for Silverman.
The final leg will be carried out by Patrik Tjardal. Patrik is a former pro triathlete who at ITU Worlds LD back in 1999 came 6th overall. He later turned to running and has netted a 30 minute - 10k on the Track. Unlike some of the other runners on other relays, Patrik's triathlon background will help when he sets off on the run alone against the clock to take
the 100k.
"We are excited to see high profile athletes such as Jonas, Bjorn and Patrik signing up for the race, they are just one of many relay teams to sign up for the race with dreams of taking home the Centra 100K Challenge," said Lowery. "We are waiting to see who the next team will be to challenge these Swedish pros."
Beating the 8-hour mark has always been the ultimate goal in the sport of triathlon. Although it has been achieved in the past, 8 hours still maintains its allure as "the time to beat" and has never before been offered up as a challenge for any relay team. Teams can consist of any combination of professional or amateur athletes willing to take the challenge.
The Nevada Silverman Triathlon will initiate in-competition drug testing at the 2006 Event. All participants will be subject to testing which will be conducted in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agencies International Standards for Doping Control. The specific details of the testing program will be announced to all participants prior to the event.
The Silverman Triathlon is a full-distance triathlon held in Henderson, Nevada.
Branded as the toughest course in North America by "The Man" himself, Dave Scott, and echoed by the 244 finishers from 2005, the Nevada Silverman is sure to attract individuals and relay teams from around the world in 2006. This years' event, sponsored by Centra, the City of Henderson, Las Vegas Events and Allegiant Airlines, will take place Sunday, November 12, 2006.
