
New International Triathlon Event Announced
Registration opens January 11.
LifeSport Coaching announced today that Canada's "hotbed of triathlon", Victoria, BC, will host an international caliber long distance triathlon event. The Victoria International Half-Iron Triathlon will take place on May 26th, 2007, and will serve as Canada's earliest open water triathlon. The event will be staged in one of the most beautiful settings in the World with the backdrop of Vancouver Island's Cowichan Valley. This promises to be a real "British Columbia Experience" utilizing spectacular Shawnigan Lake, local parks, and the Trans Canada Trail with dramatic views of the historical Kinsol Trestle Bridge.

This event will feature local and international elite athletes as well as amateur participants from across North America. Jasper Blake, Ironman Canada Champion stated, "Shawnigan Lake provides an ideal setting for a World Class event. We all know what a great area Victoria is to train and race. Once people see this race, the secret will be out!"

Race Features:
· Race is the Half-Iron distance of 2km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run
· LifeSport Coaching, lead by Lance Watson and Paul Regensburg, the triathlon Olympic coaches from the Sydney and Athens Games, have teamed up with John Botelho, the race director of the 2003 Nike Victoria International Triathlon to organize this international caliber race.
· Course consists of West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park for the swim, rolling area roads that loop the lake for the bike, and the Trans Canada Trail for the run
· Race will support the Kinsol Trestle bridge reconstruction and extension of the Trans Canada trail projects
· Race will promote the healthy lifestyle of the world's three most popular activities; swimming, cycling and running,
· Expected participants: up to 1000 from across North America
· 150 volunteers and 1000 spectators
· Relay event will also be included
· Event will also include a fun and family community oriented kid's run
· Heavy involvement and support of local community groups
· A large economic impact of a half million dollars to the community and international exposure for the region.
