October 25, 2006 - Salt Lake City, UT: Wicked Fast Sports Nutrition, makers of the revolutionary training and recovery supplements EnerG-Ease and Recover-Ease and proud sponsor of professional triathlete, Desiree Ficker, congratulates her on her second place finish with a time of 9:24:02 at the Ford Ironman World Championship as well as on all her outstanding accomplishments so far this season.
Ficker performed strongly and consistently throughout the race. She transitioned from the swim portion in 27th place, but thanks to a successful bike leg she pulled ahead to 4th place. Running the second fastest run split of the day, Ficker made her way up through the field passing 6-time Ironman World Champion Natascha Badmann, to gain third place at mile 10. She then quickly overtook Lisbeth Kristensen and held on for a hard-fought Second Place Finish.
The 2006 Ford Ironman World Championship included a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run.
"At Wicked Fast, we know that triathletes push their bodies to the limits, racing and training year round for one shot at glory -- the run down Ali'i Drive. Desiree's, hard work, determination, proper nutrition, training and recovery paid off with an impressive second place in Kona on Saturday making her the first American woman to be on the podium since 1998," stated Dr. Shawn Talbott, President of Wicked Fast Sports Nutrition.
"I came into the Hawaii Ironman this year with one goal in mind: to race smart. Last year I put my body through the ringer by over training and over racing, I ended 2005 in Hawaii with a very disappointing DNF result," commented Ficker. "This season the tables have turned and I could not be more pleased. With the help of my extremely supportive team of sponsors, in particular RecoverEase, I have learned to balance my heavy training and racing with proper recovery. I am taking RecoverEase daily knowing it will assist me in getting to the line better recovered for the upcoming 70.3 World Championship in less than three weeks time!" Ficker said.
A fully recovered Ficker will compete on November 11, 2006 in Clearwater, Florida at the Ford 70.3 World Championship.
