Nation’s Triathlon® Sold Out – Charity Slots To Benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Urban Rangers Available

by Editor on May 7, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC -- Officials for The 3rd Annual Nation’s Triathlon® To Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced today that the race is sold out, however, a number of charity slots are still available for athletes interesting in participating. The Nation’s Triathlon® national charity partner is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which participates through its Team in Training program, and its local charity partner is Urban Rangers. Competitors may purchase entry into the race via a Charity Slot that provides funding for either of these two charity organizations.

According to Charles Brodsky, founder of the Nation’s Triathlon®, “To date, more than 3500 athletes have signed up for The Nation’s Triathlon®, which has grown exponentially since our inaugural year. With the flexibility of our course and transition area, this race can continue to grow to accommodate the demand. We hope to have many more competitors sign up through charity slots, thus helping us fund two very worthy charities.”

The first triathlon in the nation dedicated to raising money to help cure blood cancers, The Nation’s Triathlon® and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announced a new partnership earlier this year that utilizes LLS’ world-famous Team In Training (TNT) endurance sport training program, which has raised $850 million toward finding a cure for blood cancers. TNT has trained more than 360,000 people to date and has already registered x number of participants for the 2008 race.

The Nation’s Triathlon’s® local partner, Urban Rangers, was founded in 1995 by Katie Davis to provide fitness and educational opportunities for young people from the Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights areas of Washington, DC. Children join when they are 11 years old and remain until they are 20 years old. This creates an extended family of “brothers and sisters” who guide and look out for each other. Now a tax-exempt non-profit, the Urban Rangers offers youth a free summer camp, an annual community basketball tournament and educational tutoring.

The race will take place Sunday, September 14, 2008 in the nation’s Capital. This Olympic distance triathlon includes a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, 40k bike course through downtown D.C., and a 10k run along Washington, DC’s monumental corridor.
