Vancouver, Canada (May 3, 2008) - The International Triathlon Union (ITU) today announced that the Rhodes BG Triathlon World Cup, originally scheduled for October 5, has been removed from the 2008 BG Triathlon World Cup calendar. The Greek Triathlon Federation has informed ITU that the municipality of Rhodes is not able to meet the financial obligations which have consequently forced the event's cancellation.

"Despite best efforts to keep this event, it simply cannot be staged without the financial resources to support it. We regret the inconvenience this cancellation causes," said Sheila O'Kelly, Director of the BG Triathlon World Cup series.
