THREE NEW TRIATHLONS COME TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
TriFREAK.com, a leading producer of triathlons in the Northwest, is pleased to announce the debut of three new events in Northern California in 2008; The DiabloMan Triathlon on Sunday, March 16th, The Golden Bear Triathlon on Saturday, May 10th and the Golden Gate Triathlon on Sunday, June 1st.
"There is significance to all of these events," stated Bo Lebastchi, CEO of TriFREAK Events, "the DiabloMan, while a sprint distance event, is really anything but. It truly is, as it's caption reads, '11.75 miles of vertical Hell,' literally 3,330 feet of climbing up the epic Mount Diablo, strategically scheduled in the early season; a short - but significant test."
The Golden Bear Triathlon brings a great race back to Berkeley, CA. "One of the early hotbeds of triathlon was in Berkeley, with the Iron Horse Triathlon in the 80's," race director Lebastchi noted. "After many hours of extensive negotiation, the East Bay Regional Park District kindly agreed to the return of a triathlon at Lake Anza."
The cherry on the Sunday, though, is the creation of the Golden Gate Triathlon. With a bay swim parallel to Crissy Field, a challenging bike course throughout the Presidio, and finally a stunning run over (and back) on the Golden Gate Bridge, this race promises to be an instant classic. "The real challenge was incorporating the bridge into the run," stated Lebastchi, "but ultimately the powers that be really wanted this event to happen." We're glad they did.
TriFREAK has produced marquee races in the Northwest since 2005, including the Federal Escape, designated the USAT Grand Prix Event for the Northwest Region, as well as the ever-popular Escape from the Gorge, the Northwest qualifier for the Escape from Alcatraz.
