XTERRA Registration
Inside Triathlon Magazine called the XTERRA World Championship the “best race in the world” and right now athletes can secure a spot in the ’08 race on Oct. 26 in Maui by entering the at-large pool online at xterraplanet.com. It’s also the right time of the year to register for XTERRA Regional Championships in Temecula, CA (May 18), Pelham, AL (June 8), Richmond, VA (June 15), and Ogden, UT (Aug. 16) because of the $99 early bird special (this is the same entry fee as 2003!).
Toker Wins XTERRA Boney Mountain
Jonathon Toker, the 32-year-old founder of the SaltStick, won the first XTERRA off-road half-marathon of 2008 on Saturday in 1:36:30, more than a minute in front of Carlos Vizcarra.
Julie Jakoboski, 23, won the women’s 21k trail run in 1:54:05, a full two minutes ahead of runner-up Lara Ray. More than 200 runners completed the “Xduro” endurance-distance jaunt from 17-year-old Doug Rubenstein to 66-year-old Tom O’Hara.
Another 80 runners took part in the XTERRA Boney Mountain 6k with Sarah Pearson (31:51) and Eric Steineger (32:49) winning the women’s and men’s races.
Next up in the XTERRA SoCal Series is the XTERRA Mission Gorge 5k and 15k Trail Runs in San Diego on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3. For complete results and more information visit trailrace.com.
Running the Rocks in Georgia
The XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series kicks into action on February 2 in Conyers, GA (suburban Atlanta) with the Running the Rocks 10k. The race is being hosted at the Conyers International Horse Park – home to the 1996 Olympic Equestrian and Mountain Bike events - on a system of trails featuring rolling hills, creek crossings, single track and beautiful scenery. Once you hit the trails organizers promise you’ll forget about the big city nearby and learn all about the Georgia Series’ “Ditch the City” creed. For more info check out dirtyspokes.com.
