TYLER STEWART SHATTERS BIKE COURSE RECORD AT 2007 IRONMAN FLORIDA ON BMC TT02
Bike Split Among the Fastest of All-Time
(November 7, 2007 -- SAN FRANCISCO, CA) -- Team EndurancePTC and BMC Bicycles proudly congratulate Tyler Stewart on her record-breaking performance at the 2007 Ironman Florida on Saturday, November 3, 2007. Competing in her first year as a professional triathlete, the American’s 4:47.59 bike split eclipsed the course record by almost 11 minutes for the fastest female Ironman bike split ever at a World Triathlon Corporation Ironman event. After her phenomenal bike performance, Tyler competed in a hard-fought foot race to take third place overall, capping a rookie season that included a second place finish at Ironman Lake Placid and an overall win at Cancun 70.3.
“Tyler is one of those athletes you dream about working with,” said Scott Thomson, brand manager of BMC North America. “She’s unswervingly enthusiastic, super appreciative and incredibly talented. It’s so great to see someone like that reach her potential and start getting results. She is a positive force in the sport and we couldn’t be happier about her success. It’s a great example of what can happen when you get the best athletes on the best technology.”
Traditionally, Ironman Florida has been known as a relatively fast course although remarkably only one woman in the history of the race had previously ever gone below 5 hours on the bike course. Delving through the record books of long-course triathlon racing history, Tyler is also the first woman to break the 4:48 mark since Quelle Roth in the early 1990s.
“Tyler is a very special athlete and her performance on Saturday was a reflection of what I thought she was capable of,” said Matt Dixon, Performance Director of Endurance Performance Training Centers. “She had not been able to do extensive run training for much of the year, so the goal on Saturday was to have the strongest possible bike without hurting the run. Through extensive physiological testing and close monitoring of her training, we were able to establish a very narrow power (wattage) range that Tyler would be capable of holding. It is truly exciting to see the results of all of her hard work come out in such a fantastic fashion. This bike split, and this race, is a perfect cap on a tremendous first year – and I am so proud to be a part of her success.”
