Identical Twin Sisters Pre-Race Favourites at Subaru Vancouver International Half Iron

by Editor on September 11, 2007

Identical twin sisters Kim Loeffler and Kelly Liljeblad of the United States have confirmed their entry in the Subaru Vancouver International Half Iron taking place this Sunday. Earlier this year Loeffler won the Subaru Victoria International Half Iron and placed 3rd at Ironman New Zealand while Liljeblad, former Houston Marathon Champion, is fresh off a top 8 placing at the Women’s North American Ironman Championships in Lake Placid. It is fitting that Loeffler and Liljeblad have decided to race together in Vancouver as Canada lays claim to the famous Puntos twins who dominated Ironman in the early 1980’s. Challenging the twins for the title will be Linsey Corbin from Missoula, Montana, who won the recent 70.3 Half Ironman in Baja, Mexico and Bree Wee, of Kona, Hawaii, who was 3rd at Honu 70.3 Half Ironman.

On the men’s side, Chris Brown of Calgary, recently the 3rd place professional at Ironman Canada, will face Team Timex member Andriy Lastrebov of Kiev, Ukraine, winner of the 2005 Ironman Wisconsin, and Trevor Williams of Calgary, the 2007 Prestige Half Iron Champion.

The event marks the third and final stop of the Subaru West Coast Triathlon Series and will be staged at the beautiful Spanish Banks and University of British Columbia Endowment Lands with the magnificent Vancouver city and mountain skyline serving as the backdrop.
