Vancouver International Half-Iron Triathlon Announced for this September
Subaru Signs on as Title Sponsor of West Coast Triathlon Series
LifeSport Coaching announced today that Vancouver, Canada will host the third stop on the new Subaru West Coast Triathlon Series. The Subaru Vancouver International Half-Iron will take place on September 16th, 2007 and will be staged in the magnificent setting of the Spanish Banks Beaches with views of the downtown Vancouver skyline and the picturesque North Shore Mountains. Peter Ladner, Vancouver City Councillor and Honorary Chairman of the Event, stated “This will be the only half-ironman triathlon in Canada held in an urban setting and a key event in helping Vancouver achieve its goal of being 20% more active by the 2010 Olympic Games.”
The event will feature local and international elite athletes as well as amateur participants from across North America. Jasper Blake, 2006 Ironman Canada Champion, said “The timing of this event is perfect as it will provide an opportunity for many athletes in North America to cap off their season with a great race. It will also be an excellent preparation race for the athletes competing in the Hawaii Ironman in October.”
It was also announced today that Subaru Canada has signed on as the title sponsor of the Series that also includes stops in Victoria and Sooke on Vancouver Island. Registration will open for the Vancouver Event on May 11th, 2007 at www.LifeSport.ca and will be limited to 750 participants.

Race Features:
- LifeSport Coaching, lead by Lance Watson and Paul Regensburg, the triathlon Olympic coaches from the Sydney and Athens Games, have teamed up with John Botelho, the race director of the 2003 Nike Victoria International Triathlon to organize this international calibre race
- Race is the Half-Iron distance of 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run
- Course consists of an ocean swim at Locarno Beach followed by a multi-loop bike ride on the University of British Columbia roads, and finishing off with a run along the Spanish Banks Beach Trails
-Relay and sprint distance events are also included
- Expected participants of up to 750 from across North America
- 200 volunteers and 10,000 spectators
- Event will also include a fun and family community oriented kid’s run
- Will include a heavy involvement and support of local community and sport groups
- A large economic impact to the community and international exposure to Vancouver

- Each triathlon event will feature a Half-Iron distance race of 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run, a relay race and a shorter Sprint race
- Expected participants of up to 2,000 from across North America, including the amateurs to the superstars professionals of he sport, 400 volunteers and 20,000 spectators
- Each race will be sanctioned by Triathlon British Columbia
- Each event will also include a fun and family community oriented kid’s run
