Chris Lieto, Lance Watson Gear Up for the Kona Lava Camp
The 2007 race season is quickly approaching. If you are aiming for a personal best year, or looking to tackle new challenges, now is the time to make your way to the sun! For a select luck few, this will mean a trip to Kona to train in triathlon’s most famous environment.
The Lava Camp in Kona will run from April 2nd to the 5th. Triathlon star and super cyclist Chris Lieto (www.ChrisLieto.com) will be on hand to compliment renowned international coaches Lance Watson and Paul Regensburg in providing a rich educational experience and exciting training schedule.
In speaking with Chris Lieto, he had much to say about the importance of annual training camps. “Training camps are a great way to ramp up motivation and focus on training early in the year without having to be distracted by the day-to-day details of work and family life”, says Lieto. “If you are like me and you train solo a lot, to train with others in a fresh new environment is a joy. In a professionally coached environment you learn so much, and you will find that your performance will improve, and continue to improve back home with your new knowledge. Personally, it is fun for me to share my experiences and knowledge that I have acquired through years of racing, and to spend time with excited enthusiastic athletes in Hawaii will be great.”
Ironman Champion and Olympic Gold medal Coach Lance Watson will lead many of the sessions as well. “I have had the good fortune of working with many of the best athletes in the world for over 20 years now”, says Watson. “I hope to be able to pass on many of the training tips and secrets that have helped these athletes be great.”
The camp will include seminars on heat, nutrition and hydration strategies, long distance race tactics as well as swim, bike and run technique. There will be some great ocean swimming and an epic ride from the historic Queen K highway up to Koloko summit. You can tie this into racing the April 1st “LavaMan Triathlon”
This will all take place at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort, a world famous resort, where you can swim with the dolphins in your spare time!
