problem w/ long distance swimming
I am having difficulties swimming long distances. The only speed I have fast. When I try to slow down so that I can swim more than 1 lap - I sink. My form? Well I am working on it but it is really not that bad. Any hints?

Everyone has to start somewhere and building endurance takes time.
I recommend repeats (either 25 or 50 meters). Start out with 10 x 25 or 50 meters. Focus on form and not time. Increase your interval distance by 25 meters every 2-weeks. If your 50 meter time is 40 seconds then swim + rest should equal 150% of your time. Therefore, 50 meters should be swam (including rest0 on 60 seconds prior to beginning next interval. Also, you can swim 50 meter intervals all freestyle and replace your rest with 25 meters easy of another stroke (i.e. breast stroke, back stroke). This will allow you to build endurance through an aggregate total of interval distance. |
Not sure what you mean with "If your 50 meter time is 40 seconds then swim + rest should equal 150% of your time. Therefore, 50 meters should be swam (including rest0 on 60 seconds prior to beginning next interval." Please can you explain more?
How often should I swim? I am trying to make it twice a week but I travel alot for work and it is very hard to find a pool in a strange town. |
