Just started doing oly dist races this year. And yesterday was my first time that I had a big prob with cramps (quads and hamstrings). They didn't hit me until the middle of the 4th mile on the run. Totally ruined my time for the day. Not too bummed tho, proud that I was able to finish the race and avoid DNF. Real proud, actually. But I am looking for advice on this. Used some gu gels and water during the bike. Lost my 50/50 Gatorade/Water bottle coming out of T1, so there went some eletrolytes right away. Its impressive that I felt good on the bike with a steady pace, but my instinct told me that the Na/K deficit would catch up to me on the run. And boom, meet your new friend, Mr. Crampy with 2 miles left on the run. Love the tri!

Having problems with cramps isnt something anyone enjoys. Since it was the first time you have experienced cramps I wouldnt go changing anything you're doing. If yuor certain you took in the same amount of fluids and food as you normally do then I would chalk it up to an off day. It could be so many things one would never know the cause.

One thing I find that helps is to log everything I do each day. This incldues what and when I eat, how much sleep, what the workout was, what I consumed during the workout and how I felt after. By gathering all this information you have data to go back to and look for trends when either really good or bad things happen.
