Generally, how many calories does swimming/biking/running burn per mile?
I realize that there are so many variable such as height, weight and level of exertion. But, I'm having a really hard time figuring out how many calories I need. I went on a 2 1/2 hour bike ride and I was so hungry the rest of the day, but I don't know if I ate too little or too much.

I have used this web site as a guideline... knowing full well that this isn't entirely scientific and that the results vary from person to person.
'bout the best I can do sitting here right now...

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! Even tho you're from Rhode Island, you've supplied a site that has a Rancho San Antonio Run calculator! I run here ALL THE TIME! And every time I do a run I have to pull out the map, do some estimates... one pinky is a 1/4 mile... 5 pinkies there... Well you get the picture.
Thanks!

I use my heart Rate monitor to calculate by calories burned. I use the Polar 720i and love the crap out it. It did cost me a pretty penny but the harder I train the more I like it. Everytime I get done working out I download the info into the laptop and BAM! time to geek out. If you have an extra 300 bones or so I would recommend picking one up especially if your a tech geek like me.
Too many options to explain here but check this out, I attached a screen shot of my ride Saturday and put the link below.
