Ok, anybody have any good advice for working through, around, or over plantar fasciitis? I fought it off and on as a runner for a couple of years. Initially when I started working on tri training had some relief due to mix of sports. Now, as I build up my training, the problems back, and more severe than in the past.

I'm using a night splint now (what a hassle) and trying to wear the right kinds of shoes when not running, etc.

Would like to hear from anyone else that has been there or is now.
Thanks!

I haven't had any personal experience with this, but my brother has. I'll try to get him to chime in. I know he would roll a golf ball in the arch of his foot whenever he was just sitting around. Also I think he uses arches in his cycling shoes as well as running/walking around shoes.

I pretty sure all that was for FP, but not positive.

have you tried physical therapy? plantar fascitis is just cranky inflammed tissue... so honestly, for it to get better fast, you need to do only pain free activity. but if you're not willing to give it up, ice ice baby...every night and esp. after workouts. rolling a golf ball is great too... loosens up the tissue. you could also try some gentle stretching (grab your heel with one hand and your toes/ball of foot with the other and pull your toes back....gently!) and then follow with some ice. the night boot sucks, but it works. try to listen to your body and stop when it hurts... it's hard i know. but while recovering from wrist tendonitis (another overuse injury) my PT put this visual in my head.. "what we're doing in PT is helping heal your body... like if you cut your knee, and a scab forms, you're healing. but every time you do something to irritate that tissue it's like me taking my fingers, jamming them under that scab and ripping the thing off. painful. and we have to start all over again. so STOP IRRITATING IT!!" it didn't quite work (i was, and am, a horrible patient... i never really stopped, and it's still with me today) but it made me more aware of the damage i was causing, and it stopped me from overdoing it (i just did it in moderation..) so good luck to you!!

and i realize that this is an old thread... so hopefully you won't need my advice because you're healed!! but i thought i'd share anyway..

Annie:

Thanks very much for the well-reasoned advice. I’ve been taking some of it…...you’re right, it’s hard. I want to try and work/live with it this season and then really lay off and heal up this fall.

Also noticed it makes a big difference type of shoes you wear when NOT training.
Good arch support, etc.

Thanks again!

I tried the ARCH+AID and it worked. You wear it from morning to night every day until you can get out of bed in the morning without pain. I now run with them on trianing runs and have never had a reocurance. I got it off of www.archaid.net. Good luck
