lbookman 04-19-2002, 02:54 PM My first race was Wildflower short course 1998 and I've been addicted ever since. I love the energy and enthusiasm of the Wildflower weekend so I think it will always be on my list.

Excellent, sounds like we're on the same track. I'll also be doing to san jose and vineman will be my first foray into the long course distances. I feel like I have a long way to go to get there though and time is creeping up on me. But very much looking forward to it.

mobiustrip 09-30-2002, 11:03 AM absolutely no races this year (totally bogus year) but am training to do a series of olympics next year. gonna try to improve my times so i am not dead-last in my age group...need to move up the ranks. starting to add some speed training to my runs and swims for the first time ever. trying to find that perfect unattainable happy median between running/biking and squats...I LOVE HEAVY SQUATS AND I AM NOT GIVING THEM UP!!! Probably an exercise in futility though...any ideas?
tribro 09-30-2002, 11:08 AM Glad you're enjoying the tri thing. Training on the slower bike should indeed help you fly by others once you upgrade to something more aerodynamic.
Squats sounds good as well. Two things I'm going to focus on in the off season is diet and weight training to include squats and lunges.

mobiustrip 10-01-2002, 08:28 AM question...has anybody done a 45-60mile adventure race? i am thinking of the benchmark appalachian challenge hosted by HFP racing. 6+miles kayak, 25+miles MTB, 15+miles hike/trail run - 9-16 hours. this sounds way cool, something that i could look forward to and i think walking is definately allowed. what am i getting myself into if i start training now through next summer? i have only done some olympics before (but not this year). my running is at 45minutes, swim is about 20min, and i have'nt biked more than an hour a week for the past several months - i have been slacking big-time! - it's true, it's true. maybe cuz i haven't had a goal for next year and doing more olympics doesn't get me as excited as they used to since i have already conquered them...albeit not in 1st place. seems like maybe a half-ironman program might fit the bill even though their is no swimming and less biking. what do you think? anybody want to train with me?...beth?...tribro?...ken?...come-on!
tribro 10-01-2002, 10:04 AM Adventure racing definitely sounds fun and challenging. I agree it's harder to train without an event in mind, something to strive to conquer. I'm planning on do more races next season. This year I did 4, including one half-ironman. Next year I hope to do twice as many races mixing in olympics, sprints, and hopefully another half or two. I definitely want to improve my times over this year.
I'll be doing more cross training in the winter to help break up my training. Try to get more mountain bike days in (good for building leg strength) and trail running. Maybe even some cross country skiing if I can swing it.

trigurl 07-21-2003, 05:47 PM Hey Mobiustrip,

Good luck with your training...I am looking forward to doing my first one in '04.
Although my boyfriend thinks that I am crazy, I enjoy running in the winter, as it seems to really build you up for the warmer months.

Glyn Davies 01-05-2004, 03:33 AM Guys and Gals,
If you're in the vicinity on your hols, bring your race gear as Cyprus has regular races from January through to late October. The sea is blue, the roads nearly empty and a mixture of on and off road running in brilliant sunshine.
The meze is a great protein base.
I have the schedules for 2004 posted on the Trifuel calendar, and all races as they come in are posted on our website at www.k1triathlonclub.org.cy
Good luck with all of your racing for 2004.
Glyn.

Billy_the_Kid 04-22-2004, 09:54 AM I'm going to do a 5k run for the Menominee, MI Waterfront Festival Aug. 7th, and doing my first sprint triathlon event Sept. 19th in Baraboo, WI. The Devils lake Challenge, part of the Wisconsin Triathlon Series, this event is a 1/4 mile swim, 15 mile bike, 3.1 mile run.
Also considering doing the Mineman Multisport event Aug. 28th in Marquette, MI. But I'm not sure if they are still going to have it, I think they drained the lake where they used to swim...??? It's a 500m swim, 20k bike, 5k run.
jillann 05-10-2004, 09:40 AM I am planning on:
Rincon Tri- June 13 (sprint), Rincon, Puerto Rico
Blessing of the Fleet 10 mile Road Race- July 23 Rhode Island
Miami Tri-America- October 10th (olympic)
Miami Tropical Marathon- January 30th '05
St. Croix 1/2 Ironman-May '05
Panama City Ironman- November '05
PLus I will probably do a bunch of local stuff around here in PR. This is ambitious, but I am one of those people who always needs to be training for something.
Deejay 05-22-2004, 09:17 AM I think i finally got my season figured out, so here it is:
May 31st: Lakeshore 1/2 Marathon
June 27th: Twin lakes Triathlon(0.5Mi swim, 14.5Mi bike, 4.9Mi run)
July 17th: Lake Michigan TRiathlon (olympic dist.)
Aug. 1st: Chicago Distance Classic (1/2 Marathon)
Aug. 8th: Lake Zurich TRiathlon (olympic dist.)
Sept. 11th: LAke Geneva 1/2 Ironman
Thats my plan. My big goal is to complete the 1/2 ironman since it will be my first. Also, i know this might be crazy, but these are my tentative plans for after 1/2 ironman assuming I recover and dont get injured.
Oct. 10th: Chicago Marathon
Oct. 30th: Lakefront 50k
Dec. 18th: Huff 50k
mike101 05-22-2004, 09:43 AM Deejay, our paths will cross at the Chicago distance classic and the Chicago marathon. Possibly at the Lake Michigan Tri, but if so I'll be a volunteer/spectator. With any luck the rain will subside and we'll both be able to get out and train:rolleyes:
KPrice 05-26-2004, 06:08 AM I've got for 2004:
Mini Ha Ha (a little mini tri I am using to train)
My Way Or The Tri Way (sprint race - you choose the order and I am gonna swim LAST)
Tri For The Cure (also sprint)
Parker Fall Frenzy (mini)
and some miscellaneous 5K's thrown in too.
bskball001 07-15-2004, 01:23 PM Race to the Face (Top of the Notch) Franconia NH, Aug 7th
K2pooh 07-15-2004, 06:35 PM We've got some very energetic people here, that's awesome. So far I've done:
1) Tri for fun: sprint
2) Tri for Real: my first Olympic:)
I'm going to do:
3) Hopefully something in Greece while I'm stuck over there for a month in Aug.
4) Angels Camp: 1000K/16 mi./4 mi.
5) Santa Nella: Olympic, signed up for as soon as I finished the Tri for Real.
Next year I'm thinking Wildflower: short course, a few sprints, a few Olympic and Barb's Race (1/2 vineman but for women only, but ran at the same time) and then we'll see how the later part of the season turns out. Something in Tahoe would be nice.
Keep up the awesome work!
Korina
cedriclburden 07-16-2004, 12:01 PM I had 8 races planned out for the season and have completed 4 so far. I completed the Lake Chatgue Sprint Tri in Hiawasee, GA 1:40, Mach Tenn Trii n Tullahoma, TN 1:36, Grandman Tri in Fairhope, AL 1:04, Valpo Tri, Valporasio, IN 1:12. I have one this weekend Cedars Lakes of Lebanon. I plan on completing 3 more: Mountains Lakes in Guntersville, AL, Music City Tri, Nashville, TN, and capstoning my season with the "Atomic Man 1/2 IM" in Knoxville, TN.
smittycb10 07-20-2004, 07:09 PM How was the Valpraisio tri? I am thinking of doing that next year.
Lake Mills, WI 06/05 sprint
Waukegan, IL 06/28 sprint
Kenoshia, WI 07/17 sprint
Lake Zurich, IL 08/08 Olympic
Chicago, IL 08/29 Olympic
Devils Challenge, Wi 10/11 sprint
A word of warning to the guy who is doing the Devils challenge as their first tri. Its really hard get plenty of practice on the bike doing hill intervals.
cedriclburden 07-21-2004, 07:32 AM Valpo Tri was well run for a 2nd year triathlon. The bike course was fair the 2nd-3rd mile I averaged 27+mph, but on the way back it was fairly challenging. They had 5 swim waves, which was better than having a massive goat screw of athletes pounding on each other. The only not-so-good was NO BEER! they had it but it was for VIPs! Last time I checked every triathlete was a VIP. Hope this helps.
C-Murder
trainDaBrain 07-21-2004, 08:13 AM the race sounds pretty tough, but the beer distribution policy takes a couple points off my races-to-do point scale. (those with the highest points get my race entry). not everyone feels the desire to chug down some barley and hops, but after the big sur marathon this year, I really enjoyed mine.
hopefully they change the way they do things for the 3rd annual.
happy training and racing!
michaelrobinson 07-21-2004, 09:58 AM I'm about a week away from my next event called the Max-O-Mania in Innsbruck, Missouri. If you haven't heard about it it's 5 events in 3 days. 2 sprint tris, 1 olympic tri, 1 duathlon(w/ extra bike), and 1 5k run or 1 mile swim (athletes choice) and total time determines overall place. The beauty of this race is it's a team race that both members compete in and some races the slower time counts and some it's the combined time. Should be a fun and fairly tough race( lots of hills, heat, and humidity).
After that it will be either an olympic distance tri or another adventure race in August or September.
Good luck to everyone:)
argeill 07-27-2004, 11:00 AM Wow, y'all are so inspiring! I am going to do my first sprint tri September 26 at Jones Beach (in Long Island), NY. My top priority... finish.
ngascout72 07-28-2004, 05:27 AM I'm doing my first tri on August 15th.
.25mile swim
9 mile bike
2 mile run
The winner last year fininshed in 44 minutes! That seems very intimidating to me. I'm a very competitive athelete; just never been an endurance athelete before! (weights, basketball, baseball, volleyball, football) so we'll see!
To establish a time i ran two miles (hills) before i started training and my time was: 1st mile 8:15, 2nd mile 9:00 last friday. Monday i swam:AM 150m 30minutes, PM 200m 35 minutes. Tuesday i biked steady for 50 minutes, and today i ran two miles again at 8:15 (flat) for my 1st and 6:30 for my second. Tommorrow is another swim 400m i think. Wooh! I'm tired just from typing all of that! Anyone esle around the SouthEast Tn, North GA area?
