I'm new to the sport and hoping to find a sunscreen that works well (no greasy hands etc...) Any suggestions short of sampling all brands? Many thanks for input....

i use aveda for my face its about 40$ for a small little tube though. it has a 15 SPF and you can get it at salons. its really good to use after swimming in a chlorine pool.

It was developed for surfers so waterproof is not a problem and it won't affect your wetsuit. It is spf 36 and 45 so it lasts. Goes on kinda greasy but dries pretty quick and you wont know its there. My opinion only, good luck!

During training, I use the NOAD stuff you can find at Wal-Mart or Target. High SPF and dirt cheap - you can really apply a good coating without spending a ton of money (I live in Albuquerque, and I think we lead the country in skin cancer, so sunscreen is a daily thing here even in the winter). I use the sports SPF 45 (yeah, I'm like an albino so I need a high SPF) and I've never burned with it on, even after about 5 hours on the bike in a swimming top.

Thanks to all, I'll have to shop around a bit and find out who sells these products locally.

Try Kinesys spray.. Not greasy and you spray it on so nothing on your hands (unless its super windy and you ned to rub it. )

Depending on the length of the race there might be sunscreen appliers waiting for you after the wetsuit strippers.

Bullfrog "quick gel." It's fabulous.

I regularly use the Coppertone Sport and it works great for this fair-skinned red head. Sometimes the bigger bottle comes with a mini bottle, which is great because it fits in my bike pocket and comes in handy on really hot, long rides. I just refill it as needed.

Last year for my really long, hot training days leading up to a half-IM, I used the Ironman 8-hour sunblock and it really worked well.

Also, don't foreget to get some lip balm/Chapstick with SPF for your lips!
