Hey Guys,
I'm training for my first sprint tri..(yeah!) I'm in pretty good shape- I'm a kickbox/fitness instructor....yadda yadda....but I am also a pretty severe asthmatic. I trained long and hard to teach my classes and I'm doing pretty well, but I would like to know if anyone else is training using quite a bit of Ventolin....and how you handle the increase in heartrate etc... I'm gonna do this thing for all the wheezers out there!

I am a pohysician and can give you some ideas, my office is 954-935-1477. Talk to your pulmonary m.d. There are inhalers to be used that do not cause tachycardia, as well as a variety of inhaled steroids that help. Your doctor is always the best source of info. Be careful but if your controlled and do brick workouts in advance you will be o.k.(make sure your asthma is well controlled in the weeks prior to the race. and of course take it easy.

Thanks for the advice- I'm currently searching for a pulmonologist who is also an athlete....maybe even one who is asthmatic...does such a thing exist? As for meds- I am on several inhaled steroids and so far am maintaining quite well...I will definitely ask about rescue inhalers that don't affect the HR. Thanks again!
