30 Days of Running

Preface:
As with all the "challenges" presented in the recent past, participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. The more that are involved the more motivating and fun it becomes.

Possible Goals:
To run as much as possible in the month of November.
To run as least 1 mile or 1 kilometer for 30 days straight.

so trying to be nice, I go up and ask them to pretty please turn the bass down so it can't be heard on the moon, or the floor below, where i live. I explain i have to wake up at 5 AM.

"why are you getting up in 5 hours"
"a race"
"oh the indianapolis marathon, my friends doing that"
"no this is just 30 minutes away, its a trail run"

Favorite training log?

I love Trifuel's training log, but sometimes I wish it had . . . more. I've been using both Trifuel and Active Trainer for my training log needs, but something Socket said in another thread reminded me that I don't really care much for Active.com (think it's a rip off).

So I'm curious: what training log do you use? Do you go online, or use plain old paper and pencil?

Goggle cleaning?

I've seen many posts on preventing goggles from fogging... seems that spit and baby shampoo are the top choices.

What about cleaning? I dropped my brand new goggles this morning -- I was able to catch them on the way down, but when I grabbed them I managed to jam my thumb right on the inside of the lens. Brilliant. Now I'm swimming with a big fat thumbprint in front of my eye.

The Dead Horse Thread

As the triathlon season is now done for some, I have come up with a few questions that I know have been asked before... many times... but since the content has been so entertaining lately I figured I'd start a new one :-) AND... I know everyone is different, but lets just say I am you... what would you do...

Racing to Push Limits?

Do you folks race to push your limits?

Now, I can't imagine how many endurance triathlete's race for fitness (it's probably better to do shorter distances).

But for all those who race to push their limits, ironman's seem great.
But, AFTER AN IRONMAN, what next?
Since we race to push our limits, it would seem logical to go onto harder challenges after the ironman.

My new bike choices - Input appreciated

I have a choice between two brand new bikes... Roughly at the same price

2008 Cervelo P3
2008 Specialized S Works Transition

I can't decide. I know more of you ride the Cervelo but let me know any pros or cons of either.

I will use my own wheelset 404/808.

Any feedback is great.

Thanks

Aluminium vs Carbon Aero Bars

Is it worthwhile to upgrade from Visiontech aluminium to carbon aero bars? This is for a new bike, so I'm not sure if this change is significant from a weight or road vibration perspective.

Please advise.

It sounds cool to say Carbon Aero Bars : ))

Diet, simple explanations please

I am getting confused.
Between carbs and protiens and what they do and then the veggies.

As far as I can figure out, Protien = strenght and Carbs = endurance, or Protien gives you the muscle and carbs make it work. Or something....

So I should have lots of carbs before my run and protien after it.
I dunno anyone got a simple explanation?

what is your resting heart rate

I'm just curious, what is your resting heart rate. I'm doing observation hours for a PT degree and working with inpatient we looked at a lot of HR and % O2. My resting is right around 51 bpm if i really slow down and 60 for average sitting and chatting. is either of these more accepted as "resting"?

Getting Faster - Easy vs. Hard OR Beating a Dead Horse

Since I started in this sport, about 4 years ago, I've been sort of a weekend warrior. I've always done *just enough* training to be able to complete my distances. I've done slow sprints, slow olympics, a slow half, and a very slow ironman. Up until this season, I've been okay with this, however, next year, I'm ready to start getting fast.

Sorry this is a tad off topic, but thought I would ask this question at a higher level. As of about two weeks ago I find myself in a position where I have no strings tying me down. My company just offered a few of us a healthy severance to not tag along when they move out of town and downsize next month... I was quick to take it.

Lets just say this is the most biker friendly course distance I have ever heard of. http://www.abudhabitriathlon.com/
I like it! Not exactly my first choice on a "destination" race, but an AG prize purse and a course that lets you ride on closed traffic 5 lane highways is worth a look. The entry fee is relatively cheap... too bad it would cost about $1500 to fly there from the US.

wetsuit

I bought the xterra vortex 3 wetsuit and I just got it today and it seemed to be a good fit but the neck is a little tight. The company said if the neck is tight it will loosen when I start swimming. Anyone else have this problem when they got their wetsuit and was it better when they started swimming?

Cheers
Kevin

possibly really stupid question-70.3

OK....when I am looking at Kansas 70.3/Branson 70.3 sites and others..I have noticed that it says there are _____ spots available or the limit is _______ spots...or you must qualify for this race. So 3 questions (1) what are these spots and do they fill up and then a random new person cannot just sign up to race? (2) qualify?

70.3 Ironman World Championships Clearwater - Who's Going?!

I will be there, as I am local to the area. It's been like a year since I posted on here so I figured I'd see if any friendly faces would be there.

Picked up the VIP pass today so if you see me taking pictures at the finish line come say hi!

It is such a great event, if you aren't racing and live in Florida/Georgia, make the trip.

Bike Rack Feedback

I've got a race coming up this next weekend that I'll need to drive about 1 1/2 hrs to get to. Until now, I've just been loading my bike in back of the SUV (laying down), however the wife and kid are coming with and that means the back of the SUV is no longer an option for the bike.
