Training... by time or distance?

So I'm am trying to make my training plan for the upcoming season and am running into a bit of a issue. Should I make my training sessions based upon time or distance? I have always used distance to define the overall length of a session (say 25mi bike ride of 4mi run) and then time for any specific drills, intervals, etc present in that day's workout.

Fitness Coach Needed

I'm trying to help a friend find an appropriate fitness coach. I say fitness coach because we're not necessarily working towards completing a tri yet, but I thought the skill set of a tri coach might be appropriate. Here's the situation:

Core I Volume II

The challenge is open to any and all. Participate and post as much or as little as you would like.

This time we are going back to basics. Core only, so any exercise that targets the abs, obliques, and lower back is what it is about. Make your own judgment as to the validity of your exercise.

Rules:
1. 100 reps = 1 point.
2. 1 minute of timed exercises(planks etc.) = 50 reps.

Ok So I am starting to get my training together, so after my race in a couple weeks, I can jump right into my next cycle.

I am going to try this training:

Training

Now As I look through this training. I don't see any strength. How should I incorporate this into my schedule?

Garmin 500 or 310xt?

Anybody using one? If so what are your thoughts? I just bought a new bike and am looking to get a computer and contemplating the 500, but, I'm also thinking about purchasing the 310xt as would be more versatile for triathlon. I have a Garmin 405, so, i could use it for bike and run (instead of 310xt), but like the fact the 310xt is waterproof.

Casually looking for a buyer for my 2005 E7. I've ridden it quite a bit, but kept up on the maintenance. I am looking for a smaller frame, this is a large frame, and I have hit the limit for me to get lower on it.

Frame has some paint rubbed off from an older bike rack, but sound. Cleaned and waxed before every race.

I'm thinking about either looking into heel strike or into the effects of cross training on injury prevention. Any other burning questions?

HELP, I have a back pain on the left lower side which is linked to the groin muscle resulting in a knee ache after each ride.

I am a novice with triathlons and bike fitting. Any advice on the positioning would be great.

The bike frame is a 58 which is a little small for me but i am stuck with it!!!!!

learning to swim

I have been a fairly competitive runner most my life but now in my early thirties I need less impact and the abilitiy to chase PR's in a new sport. Hence, I want to learn to swim competitively and compete in small triatholons. Problem#1, other than the dog paddle and aqua jogging I can't swim. I cannot even dive and am scared to try that flipping underwater and pushing of the wall thing.

specialized secteur vs allez vs other similar bike?

okay guys, i've narrowed it down. there is 2 different roadie categories in specialized, competitive and endurance. knowing nothing about geometry, components etc and looking purely at a price range and looks, i'm looking at the secteur sport triple and the allez sport triple. any ideas/opinions about those? i am also going to LBS tomorrow morning to try it out/get fitted for one.

Hi,
Im new to this tri world and have a problem with keeping my hair healthy. 2 questions:
1. any ladies out there recommend a good cap for someone with long, thicker hair? i am having trouble finding one that doesnt slowly slip off and/or just allow my hair to get soaking wet anyways.
