OMG!!!

I just went to Triathlete magazine web site and read the first headline: "Heinig first to finish Deca. Looked interesting. Then I read the rest of the article.

This man finished the World Challenge Deca Triathlon in Monterey, Mexico. He finished with a time of 212hours 29 minutes and 2 seconds. At fisrt I thought that was a typo until they gave the distances he traveled.

Ditching Technology

I don't know about the rest of you but I am a tech addict. I never go out for a run without my Forerunner 305, iPod playing the workout playlist, and constantly checking my pace, heart rate and time. But I had a revelation yesterday!!

Dumb cold weather biking gear question

So tights?

Do you get tights with a built in chamois? My biker friend and the guy at the bike store were saying to get tights sans chamois and wear them over the regular bike shorts. I guess over so you could peel layers if need be?

Perhaps I'm just being vain and girly, but over bike shorts? That just seems incredibly unflattering.

CycleOps Fluid Pro vs. Kinetic Pro Trainer

I know this topic has been discussed many times but I need your input. I am debating between the CycleOps Fluid Pro and the Kinetic Pro bike trainer for my winter rides. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which is better?

how do you kick when swimming?

my swim is not bad but, while kicking with a board i dont seem to go anywhere. I have good running/riding legs but they dont seem to be effective at kicking.
While on my back kicking i have proper speed, but on my stomache i dont seem to go anywhere.
so does anyone have some good tips to get back to the basics and get a good kick.

Re: Starting a Boston TRIFUEL team

According to the editor of the trifuel website there is currently no Boston trifuel team. Does anyone interested in training for triathlons in the Boston area want to get a trifuel training team started?

I swim on the MIT MASTERS swim team so I have the swimming part covered, but not the running and biking part of the training.

Thanks! :)
am i running too fast?

I have been looking at a lot of training information for the winter season because I am working my butt off running. They seem to recommend a significantly slower pace for the weekly long run than I have been doing. I basically just try to run the distance as fast as i can at a steady state, usually 8:00 a mile for 10-15 miles. The different things I am reading would have me at 9:00 miles...

Resource for non-athliets first tri

Hey Trifuelers... I'm planning on getting my dad a resource for training triathlon for Christmas. He used to be a reasonably fit person, active, and could be an athlete if he tried. He has recently taken a huge interest in my training and racing. I'm trying to find a good resource for him. I think that he might get a lot from it.

IM Louisville Training Question

I know it's a bit premature but if I am registered for IM Kentucky on August 30,2009, should I be able to complete a local Half Ironman middle of July (about 7 weeks before IMKY) and still be able to stick to my training plan and have proper recover from the HIM?

As a side note, I am still surprised the IMKY hasn't sold out yet??

Ironman 70.3 New Orleans experiment: From zero to hero

It was sometime in December 2007 when I found myself thumbing through a friends cycling magazine when I stumbled upon something intriguing. It was an advertisement for the first ever Ironman in my home town New Orleans. It went something like this.

"I am intense"

"I am relentless"

"I am optimistic"

"I am confident"

"I am determined"

"I am an athlete"

"I am unyielding"

"I am Ironman 70.3"

An overwhelming rush of interest poured over me. I began running down the logistics and sizing up the situation. Could it be done? I immediately picked up some literature on the sport. After some deliberation I decided on "The 12 week triathlete" by Tom Holland. It proved extremely useful and got me up to speed on the sport.

So when are we starting 30/30 this year?

Well ive been gone for awhile, from the site and from training. Took me awhile to get used to working 80hrs a week so hobbies went by the wayside for a bit.

However, im back to the site and to training. I completed a downright sad marathon performance a few weeks ago due to lack of training and its time to get back at it. Thought it was about time to bring this up again.

strength training

Need some advice on strength training. I barely have time to do the recommended swim/bike/run workouts in training program. I noticed some programs have days for strength training while others do not. I feel like working on flexibility would be more important. Any advice?

Buying a 2005 Trek Equinox

One of my friends is selling a 2005 Trek Equinox 7. It is my size and in decent shape. The price is right ($700). Should I go for this bike or save my pennies for a newer bike?
