30 Days of Running

Preface:
As with all the "challenges" presented in the recent past, participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. The more that are involved the more motivating and fun it becomes.

Possible Goals:
To run as much as possible in the month of November.
To run as least 1 mile or 1 kilometer for 30 days straight.

Is riding a bike trainer as bad as running on a treadmill?

I ran about a mile on the treadmill today and it was terrible. I am thinking about trying to get a trainer for this winter and I was wondering if riding on a trainer is as bad. Any input would be great.

Seatpost Help

I plan to do the majority of my Ironman Training on a Niner jet 9 racing mountain bike (full suspension) I live in northern Minnesota and there isn't many places to take the road bike plus the jet nine is just a fun bike to cruise in. I was hoping to get the Niner geometry similar to that of a tri bike. I was looking at a seatpost made by profile design called the fast forward.

Need a new garmin watch

Hello,
I need a new HRM. I want to get a Garmin, HRM GPS watch.

I would be looking for one that doesnt clip off to go on a bike, i dont need it to do that.
It needs to hold different HR zone exercises like a polar.
Tell me my Instant Speed.

What would be the cheapest Garmin to meet these requirements?

Thanks

First day of Ironman Training!

I've been swimming, biking, running all summer and fall, but today is my first day of the Trifuel 36-week Ironman plan and I'm just so psyched to be starting this journey. Just wanted to share the excitement and say hi to all of you who will be putting in the miles this winter! Good luck and happy training to all of you!

So I just finished packing for IMAZ and my inventory looks scary. I think the biggest thing is that I'm trying to over prepare for the bike and have to accept that it's a gamble.

Need a New Bike Helmet

Hey guys,

I need a new helmet. Been riding and tri'ing for two years, and I've just got one, which I also use for commuting. To say the least, it's bleached out looking--and not at all aero. I mean, I like the sun visor and all, but it's time to move up a little.

Hey guys,

I just posted an article on trijuice about the drafting issues in Clearwater.

I also posted a quick 6 question, Yes or No survey. I think we have a few past or current Clearwater participants here. Would you mind participating. Help us and the WTC see what's going on by participating:

Shin Splints

I have had shin splints on and off for the last six months. I have tried everything to get rid of them--icing my leg, not runnings for weeks, massaging it. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get rid of shin splints? I just signed up for the California 70.3 next April but if I don't get rid of the shin splints I won't be able to run 13 miles. Thanks!

The Dead Horse Thread

As the triathlon season is now done for some, I have come up with a few questions that I know have been asked before... many times... but since the content has been so entertaining lately I figured I'd start a new one :-) AND... I know everyone is different, but lets just say I am you... what would you do...

Shin Splints

I get shin splints on the odd occasion, its so weird I can run most days and be pain free. But every now and then they annoy me. I can ignore the pain when I do get them running, just hate the pain I am in when I stop. Whats the best method on dealing with this, whilst running and in recovery ?

Ironman Support/Fan Question

My parents are about to race in their first Ironman. I am signed up to volunteer, and plan to be their sherpa... Any advice or thoughts on how to make their life better? Anything anyone did for you either during or after your Ironman race that made the event more special?
Ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

Hello from Portugal

Hello Members,

Recently my son has moved to his own apartment and I am closing down my cattery of fifteen years. Before moving to this lovely country I was a restaurant co-owner and a marathon runner completing New York and Washington. I love bike riding to the point of doing the Shore to Shore MS ride of 170 miles, both years ago.

transition question

I am doing my first tri next week Sunday. It is an indoor tri 10 min swim, 10 min transition, 20 bike, 5 min transition 15 min run.

... and could replace just one body part (or matched set) (Hey! Keep it G-rated!) in order to have an easier time finishing longer tris, what would it be?

As I extend my distances, I've gone from worrying about my knees to hassles with my big fat clown feet. Hard to get a good fit in bike shoes or even running shoes, and parts are starting to get tender & squished.

Volunteer Advice

I am to be a volunteer at the Ironman Western Australia (Busselton) - in transition for the swim to bike leg. I am new at sprint triathlons (about 10) and other than watching Ironman events on TV I have never been to a live event. I was a Bike Marshall at the World LD and the main requirement was cheering everyone on which I think I achieved :).

Not the best race prep for then a Triathlon that I have 3 weeks after I get back from Hawaii, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have also never been there before so cant wait !

Hopefully this does not qualify for the 'dead horse' forum, but I will post anyway. Seeing how it is the 'off season' does anyone do anything to mix up their training?
