Winter training.
spinning works. just with the few times that I did it this spring, i noticed a change in my riding. and you're riding with a bunch of other people, music, it's not bad. i noticed that the spin groups are friendlier than the rest of the gym crowd, more talkative, and we all have to be there at the same time.
give it a try, they're really hard to do if you follow the instructor word for word.
i understand where you are coming from, living in wisconsin. i took a spinning class at the y 2 times a week in late fall, winter, and through early spring. it helped a lot. i started the biking season very strong. we did a lot of interval and hill training which helped to strengthen my legs , plus you can adjust the tension on your bike to make it easier or harder depending on how you feel. i also have a trainer and some chris charmichael training videos to help stay in biking shape. plus i love to lift weights so i do that quite often in the off season to stay strong.

I joined 24hr fitness this spring because of the lap pool, but I think I'll give the spinning classes a try as well this winter. The instructor is an age group triathlete so it should be good. I also have a Kurt Kinetic trainer at home and have done Spinnervals workouts. Let me tell you those 45-55 minute workouts that coach Troy Jacobson puts you through are killers. I really noticed an improvement in my anaerobic power. I'm thinking the spinning classes are just as tough. You get on a treadmill and think Ha! This is cake!
1st crack at half IM distance 4 days away! Wish me luck!

Not looking forward to Chicago Winter. Im thinking I will attend spin class 3-4 times per week. But just how effective is this? Is it close eneugh to the real bike experience or am I going to enter Spring being all out of shape? Any other suggestions of good things to do to stay in "bike shape" I will run outdoors all year round, but I cant see riding my bike through a foot of snow.
