I think I've seen what you are talking about in the back of some triathlon magazines. They are more than just pedals with cages....they are designed to hold an entire running shoe. I guess in theory, they'd work...
After watching dozens of triathlons, I can honestly say I've never seen anyone (out of thousands of people) use those contraptions.
If you are serious about it, Pimm (and I think you are) go clipless. Your power on the bike will increase to a great extent!

Yeah, know what your mean : never seen anyone with them!
Tnx for the info, will put them off my "Maybe-Wanna-Have-One"-list ...
[I'm kind of glad now] :D
I think this is what your're looking for Pyro Platforms

Exactly, I was referring to something like that ...
So if these aren't very good, what would you suggest? Regular cycling shoes?
Does anyone of you use a specific type in training/racing or what?
SPD's are the easiest to get in and out of...
but for me on longer rides, since the SPD clip puts pressure on a smaller part of your foot i prefer the TIME system...similar to LOOK. i was experiencing numbing in my toes from the SPD's...on rides longer than 40mi.
i started with SPD's my first year riding and doing tri's...took a few falls getting in and out...got comfortable then went to the TIME system...new pedals and shoes...more $$...this is an expensive sport!! the TIME and LOOK systems have bigger clips the pressure is spread over more of the ball of yor foot...less numbness and pressure.
you get much more power with a clipless system...it's worth trying to get used to.
thanks for listening to my opinion...hope it helps!

Since English isn't my native language, I'll try and keep it simple ...
Nevermind the specialist-talk about Look/Shimano or other Pedals - I was wondering wether there's specialised Footwear-material [click-on-system???] that permits you to "click-on" your running shoes straight to your pedals ...
Are such systems available (I though I'd seen them on a website) ?
Are they in use by any of you, or have I dreamt the whole thing?
Most important question : Is it worth checking this out? Rubbish or not? ['cause I don't feel very comfortable in specialised Cyclists' shoes]
