Hello all, just wanted to say thanks for putting together a great website and for the men/women who participate in the very interesting discussions on the board ive been reading for awhile now.

I'm currently in the Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg trying to prepare myself for my first TRI...... although i feel i have a long long way to go. My particular unit/occupation does alot of running and swimming, but I have absolutely no history on a bike...

Well, just wanted to say hello and thks for a nice board.... also if anyone has any good info on getting into biking & bike training.

Pretty much you've just gotta put the miles on! (There are lots of bike drills you can do for speed, but I don't do any of 'em, I admit it... might be why I am slow...) Welcome to the sport!

Yeah, just jump on a bike and ride...and have fun!!! You've conquered what will be the hardest part of your first tri, the swim and the run.

Good luck and lets us know how your first tri goes.

And I salute you!!!

Oh yeah, my son is in the Army at Ft Bragg also. His name is Tim Green, but I'm sure you don't know a lot of the people stationed with you.

No, he is not into tri's. But he is in better shape than he's been in a while. I keep preaching to him to run and stay in shape, but at times he just doesn't get it...you do.

He knows what his dad does because I tell him all the time. But he wasn't raised the way I am now. I did my first tri last June at 45 years old, he thinks that is out of his range...go figure, huh.

He said he is going to Iraq soon. I don't know what to think of that, but he is totally ready to go....he's a great son.

Hey I share your pain, there is always something coming up that distracts you from training. I would offer to ask your CDR could you have 2 days where you can bike in the morning instead of doing the regular P.T. and share with him your goals.

actually CPT B im headed to Campbell myself in the new year, will be stationed with the 5th SFG.... you wouldn't happen to be with them heh? Any TRI clubs or decent amount of races in the local area?

As for your son TIM G, im sure he is great, and im sure he has alot of things on his mind, especially with deployment plans. Me personally, I like to get into sports such as this to get abit of relaxation from MIL matters... i gues its all opinion, and im sure he has his own stress relief

I'm in 1st Brigade Combat Team, the good news is I'm a member of this awesome club in Nashville called GNAC (Greater Nashville Athletic Club). There are races out the wahzoo to do around here, plus Clarksville is known for it's premier bike roads, as a matter of fact I'm doing the Clarksville Century this weekend; the 62-mile course.

Hi Waki-z,
the army seems like a good way to get fit. About the bike, just try to avoid grinding away in a big gear or you risk straining your knees. Learn to spin a smaller gear than you think you need until you gain experience.

all the best,
