Great job and report!
Tough race for you, but an incredible finish! Way to "gut" it out Ironman, you make us proud.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Great job, man. Any idea what happened with your knee? How does it feel now?

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
No clue, though by everything I can tell it's simply soft tissue, thankfully. I'm heading over to my PT in about 20 minutes to get checked out...so we'll see.
Ironically it actually feels fine now. It's the top middle of my foot that's killing me. I've a feeling I bruised something there through my "interesting" running style during the race :p

It looks like I probably have a minor stress fracture in the 4th metatarsal in my right foot.
Nothing too bad, the next week will tell if it'll heal fine or if I'll be going in for MRIs, etc.

do they think it was from the odd running style or something that was started from training the jump in mileage that day brought to the surface? (if i remember right your running had been limited from your other knee surgury and issues...)
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
most likely the odd running, as I was switching from straight legged to my foot turned every which way until I could find something that was semi-comfortable.
But at least it seems minor, and there's generally no pain as long as I'm in sneakers. Can't wear my burks though :(

huh. I didn't realize stress fractures were caused so easily. I thought they were one of those repeating kind of things.
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
repeating, at an odd angle, landing on the foot in a way that it's not supposed to land.
To say things more correctly, most likely the area was stressed during the buildup, and then started to fracture during the run...that is, providing there is a fracture. Right now it feels like one, but I haven't had an MRI yet. I'll probably grab one next week just to be on the safe side in any case, as insurance will cover it.

Great job on a tough day (heck, in my book that would be a great job on a not-tough day too!). Nice report.
Congrats on "gutting it out" and finishing with a great PR despite your pain! I love reading other people's experiences...its soooo motivating. I'm going to have to remember that phrase.... Congratulations again!
