This was my first HIM. Nice course (point to point swim along the beach, some rolling hills but still very fast bike course) and well organized. Some issues from 2006: a lot of drafting and group riding and no bike marshals (there supposedly were some, but nobody has seen them). The race director promised to improve this for 2007. Number of port-o-potties is also on his to-be-improved list.
The run course was "OK". There is almost no shadow, so prepare for heat early August. Not the fault of the organizers of course, hydration and ice were available every mile.
The unknown for 2007: they increased the number of max. participants to 3000. That might cancel out the "anti-drafting improvements".

Thanks for the info! Too bad about the drafting problem. You're right. If they cant handle the drafting with 1500 participants how will they handle it with 3000? One thing: Is the swim typically wetsuit legal? Appreciate all your help!

Yes, wetsuits are allowed. I don't think Lake Michigan will ever become warm enough to prohibit their use in that area.

when is this race? i am currently looking for a full IM at the end of this season and the midwest is slim pickings.

this is a great race, probably my favorite year after year. Lake MI swim can be tough with waves and all. It is a point to point swim in about 10-20 feet of water. A wetsuit is a must.
The course is very hot, especially the run, you can just bake out there.
Registration can be a problem, it fills up fast.
Afterwards and the rest of the weekend is great. Lake MI and the beach is as good as it gets to relax and take a short two day vacation.

Just curious to see who has done this triathlon and what the course and event was like. Is the swim a shallow water swim that is point to point and is the bike rolling hills mainly? Anything would help as I am considering this for my first HIM. THANKS!
