IM Vineman-2006
Hmm I'd totally consider that.
I did grow up in Sonoma and have wanted to try the course...
Are you talking about the half or the full? Confused since the half is the MDot one, but the full is the one with Barbs if I remember right.
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
I did the M-Dot one this year (half) and it is a nice course. I am still figuring out my race schedule for 2006 but you can put me in for 'tentative'. Pancho, as Kyillee points out are you talking about the full or the half? I believe they are a few weeks apart.

I'm talking about the full. And actually they are not offering the "team entry fee" for the 70.3. The full is August 12, 2006 together with Barb's race and Aquabike and relay. But, again, the promotion is only for the full.
The sign-up due date for the free 3rd person is not only April 1st, 2006. so you guys don't have to rush your decision but lets put a temporarily team for the 3 of us. (go for it guys!) Maybe there are more trifuelers for a second team. :D
Ok I'm being lazy... would it be $200 each for the full with a trifuel team?
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
Yes. the fee before APril 1st is $295 per individual. If you sign 3 at the same time as a team, one is free and each would be saving $98.33
The fees after april go up as follows to April 30 - $320
May 1 to July 15 - $345
July 16 to Aug. 5 - $370
Aug. 6 to Aug. 11 - $405
After April the team fee is not available.
got it?

Cool - sounds good.

Ok... I'm gonna have to double check some dates, but that sounds like a great time! My mom lives in Sonoma, and as she is one of my biggest fans it will be nice to do one by her!
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
I've been "convinced" as well :p. Just have to double check some dates, but I'm putting this one on my race calendar.
...and I'll still be doing the Pacific Crest in Bend, Oregon June 24th for anyone who wants to join me :D

It's Aug. 12, 2006.
My mom lives near Santa Rosa (in Sonoma) and there would most likely be some spots for interested racers (if I really make it, which I'd love to).

right on RiverBrady!. At this pace we will have trifuel teams all over the course.
Ok so I'm in for sure.
And I want this to happen, so I'm totally willing to coordinate Team TriFuel. There may be more such teams added, but I'm thinking this one can be the first three people to get me checks for $196.67 and a paper entry form and I will get us registered (either by mail or online).
So stake your claim today! Email, IM, or PM me for a mailing address -- I'd like to get this done ASAP :)
As for training rides, I'm in the LA area but willing to travel within reason occasionally (I have family in many parts of CA and in AZ, so those would definitely be options for me).

I'm in!!! Woohoo!

Dude RB, read the directions... you gotta get the $$ and ppwk to me to be sure ;)

This sounds tempting for my first real travel tri. Now i need the race entry fee.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
huooo!! I was going to coordinate that but since you're in such a rush you are it.
I think, though, is fair that you should wait some time to CAcyclingFAN and I send you the fee. We’re the first three in line. If you don’t get the fee in, lets say in 2 weeks, the next in line takes the place for team. There is plenty of time for the team registration.
I don’t have a problem to send you the fee and registration, it’s just fair to give CAcyclingFAN the chance to get in.
If you and CACylingFan are both interested, then we'll just have to go with two teams! Yup, I totally see how that would be the fair way, but Jeremy and I would also like to race on the same team. So.... I will send CA a message and if he is up for it we will look for another third and help you guys find one as well :)
I have sent a PM to the involved parties... I really wasn't sure how serious about it interested people were on here.

Hey guys- Sorry I was away from the computer for a while. I do want to do Vineman but I am focusing on IM CDA as my 'A' race and since Vineman usually doesn't fill right away I wasn't planning on registering this soon. That said, I absolutely don't want to hold anyone up and you have three ready to register now so go for it! If more respond to this post and the timing is right I will go on that team.
If it turns out I can't race for some reason I will probably volunteer. So, I am sure I will see you all either way!

Awesome... and if you do decide to do it in time for a team reg, it shouldn't be too hard to find interested people here and on local tri club mailing lists!
IM CDA... SWEET!! =)
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
Wooo!
Good luck at CDA. Hoping to make it up there sometime in the next couple years myself...and hopefully we'll see you at vineman in one capacity or another :)

CAcyclingFAN, good luck there man!
Thanks - I am fired up for it! Good luck to you guys at Vineman. I will hopefully see you there.

Just...as an fyi :D
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
I was just looking at the course, and deciding I should maybe drive it with my GPS when I go home over xmas, and then can share the elevation profiles (or just google earth versions if I can figure out how to do so).
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
Looking at the website, it looks like there aren't timing chips for the full? Do you get splits for it?
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
That seems...strange. A non-chipped race nowdays? Will have to look into it more.
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
It could just be that the info page is geared at the MDot Half Vineman... from the "details to know" page: 9. Make sure that you properly wear your race numbers (for all races) and timing chip (for the Half Vineman). You will receive three numbers at packet pick-up.
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
I've gone ahead and written the organizers for clarification. Will let everyone know when I hear back.
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
Ok... I'm guessing it has to be 'cause I just found splits for people in the results from previous years.
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
Just got an email. The full is chip timed as well.
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
They have the time chip system. We have to remember to activate the chip right before the swim start.
In the beach, when your age group is called you have to walk through the activation mat then into the water. This information is not in the web info or race pamphlets. I saw two guys that were in the water with the chip not activated, the announcer happened to mention the activation mat before the cannon went off, these two guys swam back to shore, run in the beach full of pebbles and rocks, went across the corral were the activation mat was and back to the water!!!!
If you can check the elevation in Chalk hill, it is at the end of the first loop I think mile57, it is a challenge uphill and in the second lap is a killer.
I believe from the website chalk hill is 358 ft. But assuming driving the course works out this dec I will share the profiles for elevation with this group!

Ok just spoke with Pancho... he has had a fun trip with his daughter come up in August and won't make it... anyone intersted in joining me and Jer for Vineman?
You get a bonus if you're current IM time is in the 13th hour, but all applicants welcome :) I mean, who could pass up an IM distance race with the two of us, in the wine country, possibly with housing for the days before it, and all for under $200!

I was planning on doing a Half in October (Soma in AZ) but my plans have now changed so I think I am going to try to do the Half Vineman this year. For 2 seconds, I thought about joining you guys for the full, then came to my senses. Does anyone know when the Half usually fills up?
My blog: http://vollenda.trifuel.net/
you could totally go for a full =) You have the bike miles in and are already set for a half marathon, and it's 32 weeks out (not counting, really ;-))
No idea on the half filling... it's done by mdot and the full isn't, so they aren't really related other than in name and website.
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
Yeah, I think I could do the bike and run pretty easily. But first I would have to survive the swim and right now that is a big, big question mark for me. My longest swim so far has been 1200. I really need to work on it.
My blog: http://vollenda.trifuel.net/
...and I'll cook for anyone who joins us.
TriFuel team, couple of punky triathletes to race with, Kylie to train with...what more could you ask for ;)
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
Well, well, well. That is so very tempting! :) Can I?
My blog: http://vollenda.trifuel.net/
My first long swims were just in the pool, slowing the pace and seeing simply how long I could go...most likely, you'll surprise yourself.
Otherwise, just time and focus...and the fact that you and Kylie could swim at the same pool!

Yes you can.

Lisa -- I'm ashamed of you. You? Asking if you can? Throw those doubts out the window! Of course you could. Really, it's just a matter of if you want this to be the year, and that to be the race.
For the swim: I haven't been in the water in WAY TOO LONG and would love to join you. Am planning on swimming M and W mornings at 24 in Rancho for now. The Upland one will be 24 hours and opens mid to late February (I just called) so I might switch to that one later (if I remember right, it's near your work so works even a bit better for you?) or could stay at Rancho. I'm working on getting a swim coach at Pomona college to start a master's group as well. For open water, we'll just have to head to bonelli and practice.
Bike: we know the routine, and both Foothill Cyclery and Inland inferno have Saturday morning rides.
Run: IITC also has Sunday AM runs. I'm following a schedule Libor shared with me, as is Jer (we are starting it this week to have a sort of "training together across a few states" deal). I can send that to you if you'd like -- basic idea is T and Th 6ish miles, and back to back long runs Sat and Sun -- not sure if you are interested in that kind of training, but it appeals to me right now. I'd be up for doing some long weekend runs together as well. Perhaps right after rides, leaving our bikes safe at FC.

Oh, and while in northern CA I drove the bike and run courses complete with GPS, and have posted the elevations and such. Some sections were closed for flooding, so the end of the loop on the bike is missing (and you repeat the "lollipop part" - as I think of the first part as the stick - twice. The run is an out and back you do 3 times. I only drove each part once (there might be some of the back part in the run GPS, I think I forgot to turn it off for a minute), but here they are:

The Half is an M-Dot race so it will fill up faster than many races. So sign up early or better yet, do the full!

Yup... another thing... I will be driving up to my mom's for that race with room for people and bikes. My mom has said there is space on the floor and couch she has for people who want to use it, and that is my plan for the days leading up. However, for the night before I'm planning to get a hotel closer to the start (my mom's is about an hour and a half away).

However, the draw of family is also a big one, so you'll have to do IM AZ sometime. But hey, it's earlier in the year and full for 2006 anyways.

Okay I’ve decided to do IM Vineman again. It was not hard to choose the event again because it has all the right ingredients for a great race: organization, nice views during the swim and bike, rolling hills bike course, tough run portion, relative few athletes, Barb’s race women only-tri race raising funds for cancer treatment, and the aquabike race make a great day. Once said that, they are offering one entry free when you sign with two friends. Not only that they will give special recognition to the top three “teams. So here it is the chance to save $100.00 each and try to put trifuel in the vineman’s records as top 3. That means to get encourage (if the forum is not enough) from the team and get some rides and training together. So jump in, I know some in trifuel want to try Vineman
