Tinman triathlon race report

just a short rr from hawai'i. i haven't had the chance to race this season, except for a short indoor triathlon, but i have been running a lot more, and had a few swim lessons, so i was anxious to see what i could do. but of course, 2 technical malfunctions: i couldn't remember how to move the garmin from sport to sport, and i was missing my cassette tool, so no race wheels. i got to the race very early, and set up, killed some time, and headed off to the swim start. i was actually keeping up with the pack (usually a really slow swimmer), but kept on getting kicked and punched, so i dropped back a bit. it seemed faster, but only 16:32 for 750 yards (probably more, given my wandering). transition was 2:36, and off on the bike. i was a bit worried, since i had carbon rims and it was raining, so i knew that braking would be an issue. it came down pretty hard at times, and i definitely held back going down heartbreak hill, but overall ok. 1:16 for 25 miles. transition 1:43, and then off to the run. i knew that somehow i wasn't going very fast, although at this point i finally got my garmin back into running mode. and i was right, 46:55 for 10k, which is pretty slow for me. overall, 2:24, which was 8 minutes better than last year, but still 2 minutes off my best time. mahalo for reading.

Well done Kaolelo,

Was this an Olympic distance? seems a strange distance for the swim.

no, it's sort of a hybrid, not quite a sprint, not quite an olympic.
