I rode the Golden Triangle last Sat./Sun. - pix

no, not the Devil's Triangle. The Golden Triangle includes the Trans-Canada Highway in the Rockies between Golden, BC and Lake Louise, Alberta, from Lake Louise to Radium hot springs and the third leg from Radium back to Golden - about 275kms - best done over 3 days I feel., because then you can enjoy Lake Louise, see the glacier, then bask in the hot pools in Radium followed by dinner at Outback Jack's, then the third leg is flattish, rolling with great views of the Selkirks back to Golden.

I saw lots of animals, 3 bears, 7 Bighorn Sheep, a ten-point buck, marmots, ravens - all close-up. The stag ran alongside me for 50m before diving back into the woods. See pix below.

Of note, I had a blow-out 12k from the end: on inspection there was a patch of tread worn through to the threads and it blew. Obviously a patch on the tube wouldn't hold. I used two gel packets (empty) as a shim between the tube and the tire. It held for the remaining 12k, incluidng the climb of Sinclair Pass to where the van was waiting. I must write a testimonial to Clif Shots praising the strength of their packaging. :)

I've heard about this ride. Totally jealous seeing those pics. Did you go with a group or solo?

I am:
1. Jealous
2. In awe
3. Drooling
4. All the above.

You live in a beautiful part of the world. Glad you get to enjoy it in such a cool way.

Now that's living . . . sounds like an epic weekend . . . I would love to do that sometime.

Thanks for the compliments. I rode solo, but had the GF in support driving a van which was great, except that, when I had the blowout, she had passed me and was waiting at the top of the climb! I was on my own, and had to try the gel packs as emergency boot in the tire. It had a hole I could stick my pinky through.
So remember when touring, carry a piece of old tire to use as a boot patch to get you home, lest you become bear lunch.

that is a beautiful part of the world and what a wonderful weekend ! we have a trick here where we put a $5 note in the tyre. our money is plastic and it works a treat.

Awesome ride. Even more awesome patch. Red Green would be proud! Such a beautiful ride, I'll have to make my way up there someday.
