Tri-top question

I am returning to triathlons after a year break following the birth of my second son. I have competed in about eight sprint and olympic distance events. Swimming is my weakest leg, and I have always worn a wetsuit. This race may be too warm for a wetsuit so my question is this: should I swim in my triathon top or just put that on when I get to T1? Right now I feel faster in the water without it (not as fast a with my wetsuit). Anyone have any advice? Do people normally swim in the tri tops? Mine is a Zoot, full-zip top. Any advice would be great.

Oh, the swim is 1/2 mile.

I swim in a tri top but I always use a wetsuit. If you feel faster without the top then I would just put it on in the transition zone. It will take you less than 5 seconds unless you get something stuck.

I have tried changing tops during training workouts and every time being sweaty or wet my tops get stuck and sometimes difficult to change. Being that yours is a full zip might make it a little easier to put on versus pulling a top over your head.

I usually swim in a tri-top because trying to get a tight top over my head while I'm still wet from the swim is quite difficult.
