OK, Here is the dilemma.
I was injured in January and that prevented me from starting to train using the trifuel training program. I have used this for my other 3 IM races and have some comparisons on where I am at in training vs previous years.....I am 7 weeks behind the program. I am in week 12 of the preseason and my race is August 19th( mt tremblant).
So my question is this, should I jump ahead next week and start the competitive season scheduler or do a few more weeks of base building and then go to say week 4 of the competitive season to finish out my training.
I would say my base is very strong running but weaker now than other years on the bike and I am still reaching the aerobic zone benefits as I see much improvement week to week in HR/speed relationships.
I am leaning toward 4 more weeks of base building and starting in week 5 of the competitive season after that to finish off training.
Thoughts Ideas have you had to do this before ?
If you don't think your base
If you don't think your base is there then don't jump to the competitive sessions yet. You'll blow up.
Do the base build still and then create your own 2-3 week to get you caught up to the IM plan. Meaning do do 4 weeks of base and then jump to competive season week XX. Insert your own cross-over session of 2-3 weeks to get you caught up to where you should be.
On my 3rd ironman i had to
On my 3rd ironman i had to miss close to a month of training due to a calf tear. As i had a very strong base i basically just went to the week that i left on and did less tapering. I personally, am not a big fan of a long taper so it worked just fine for me.
I believe this happened at the beginning of june and the race was at the end of august. Ironically my time was 20 minutes faster than the next year that i had no injuries.
good luck and i hope all works out well for you.
