Sh*t triathletes say

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5KrktnXG1Y

LOVE this! I hope I don't sound like that I but I KNOW I've said some of those things
"I'm SOOOO tired!"

Bahahahahaha

And this just appeared in my in-box today:

Shit Cyclist’s say,

I saw that the other day...funny, and sort of sad at the same time.

So you're saying that triathletes are overly-self important douchebags? Seriously, this is pathetic. I can't tell you how many friends I've hidden on Facebook because of nauseating updates such as the lines from the vid. It's like the writer just scoured his/her Facebook feed and jotted down all the updates. Gross! Now I'm only referring to my d-bag freinds on Facebook, and while I'm friends with jtrimom and Anton, they've never done this ... but no one really cares (except fellow nutjobs)! Talk is cheap: Post a verifiable race result after months of yammering on about about all your training; post shirt-off pics instead of talking about your nutrition strategy; or just STFU about what your race-day outfit is. Since when did the finish line photo become a freakin' cat walk? You're Lululemon skort doesn't negate the fact that you suck.

I had to stop it right after she talked about doing 100/100s. Really? I just saw that identical Facebook post from a self-absorbed tri newb last night. Folks, that's a 10k swim. This person is a 2:00 per 100 at best (with fins and paddles, in a salt pool and full wetsuit ... maybe). "So you're swimming for three hours?"

Blahaha! Tell us you really feel Sooner!

Seriously though, all of what you are saying about fb post are true. Every time one of my DB FB friends posts what a "hard" workout they did today or that 100/100's I feel like posting "shut up and train" and "I'll still kick your ass in the race, with all that training". I don't care who you are, but nobody cares how much you train, what you eat, how exhausted you are, etc.

Over the last couple of years though, I've noticed a trend with the FB posters. The post are frequent in winter and spring, but come race season (summer/ fall), there is not much posting as the results do the talking and there isn't much to speak for there.

had to go back in my FB stream to see how big a douche i have been. I am clear as far back as 6 months!

I think it is hard for noobs just getting into it. Everything we think of as being annoying and STFU already, they might be going through for the first time. the 17 mile excruciating bike ride which was epic and made them have to take a nap really was a milestone they needed to post. others use it as a way to log their workouts, probably because they don't have a blog yet..

heck, lance does it... are you trying to tell me that lance is an overly-self important douchebag? wait, don't answer that.

I can't speak too much to it, cause i am a 245lb man on a tri bike, and whether i am a little up, or a little down, it doesn't matter. I am still the best person to draft off of south of the mason-dixon.

hope this doesn't get me ignored...

I took this as more tongue and cheek that Sooner. I thought this was Melanie McQuaid, and she was goofing around, exercising the many niggles of her acting.

With that said, the many apparent sides of her were rather entertaining. She ran the gamut from serious athlete to strung out overachiever at home in a cocktail dress.

To Sooners point though, discussing training with fellow athletes is a delicate subject. Too many of my tri friends make it into a contest, and its hard to avoid getting caught in it.

Anyone care to join me for 100 100's tonight?

Its always good to laugh at yourself every once in a while. Both clips were so funny, because they are true.

As for making known to the world my workouts and my intense efforts that require gnashing of teeth, I just can't do it. There is always someone better than you. Besides, I believe its more fun to encourage those that are new to the sport, or working out in general because it benefits us all. Even doing something as walking a mile may be hard for someone.....although I do catch myself in the same breath thinking "man, I can't wait til January is over so my gym isn't as crowded."

I'd love to, but I'm working on my transitions tonight.

I think we all feel that way! I only use the gym to swim, but still. The gym is so crowded there aren't even enough lockers at certain times.

It didn't take long for my gym to empty out again...I think MLKing day?

I saw the video yesterday. I laughed.. and winced at the same time.
It reminds me of a video Huddle & Frey made several years ago showing Huddle as a freaked out Type-A in the hours before Ironman, dissing everybody with his own self-importance - showing us all how NOT to be. They showed the video at the IMC pasta party.

I checked off the list of dumb things the guy on the video (above) said, against dumb things I have said and felt a little relieved, but I am sure I have put my foot in my mouth once or twice.

This is another benefit of team sports for personal development. Your teammates don't care how much you hurt, how many miles you swam, biked, ran. They don't put up with your crap. They expect you just to show, up, shut up, and put it all out on the court.
