CycleOps Fluid2 problem

I want to start by saying that I love my Fiuld2 bike trainer but after using it for 2 years it started giving me problems.
It started making clicking noise and i noticed there is a slight groove like indent in the drum where the rear tire comes in contact with it. I'm attaching a picture of what it looks like. I don't believe a tire would make an indent on the drum just after two years and I was not tightening it that hard.

I contacted CycleOps but never heard back from them.

Does anyone have an idea?

That's impressive! You must put a bunch of time on the trainer.
Mine just has roughness from road debris in the tire, not a full- on groove.

Hopefully you will get a response soon. I'd suggest calling in addition to email. How long have you been waiting to hear from them?

That's weird, I've had my CycleOps fluid trainer for at least 7 years, put a ton of miles on it and I've never seen anything like that. Hope you get an answer!

I have had my fluid 2 since witner 05' It has a grove as you described as well. I use the hell out of it 80%+ of my bike time, so figured its just normal wear and tear. have had more than my moneys worth. I dont notice any extreme noise however, but I usually have ipod on. I did strip the bolt that accepts the tightening nob, which is now a yellow handle type lock mechanism and they sent it free of charge no problems. My wife also teaches cycleops and has had a power stick returned and replaced without issue. I think they do a great job with customer service. In the cases above we called them directly and had the parts within a day or two. I have heard from others email contact takes a bit longer. My advice call them directly. good luck

Thank you for your input. I'll give them a call.

wow, how tight do you cinch that thing down? Do you go through tires frequently?

Not that tight, it's still possible to move the wheel by hand and hold the trainer drum so it does not move, if you really wanted to. And I don't switch the tires that often.

I called them, but I'm guessing yesterday was not a good day to call. They had a voicemail saying that they are having some company event. Sounds like a holiday party. I will try again next year or maybe will just stop by Madison and visit them.

I checked mine today and it has a similar groove in it. Though mine is a good six or seven years old, and does get pretty heavy use.
Please let us know their response. Thanks.

I went and checked mine and it does have a very slight groove. Although I use my trainer a lot, I do take my bike on and off of it frequently, so the tire is never in exactly the same place. I think it would be more likely to wear a more serious groove if you leave the bike on the trainer all winter without moving it.

Thank you Bella chan, that was very insightful.

I called cycleops and the guy on the phone was very helpful. He gave me RA number and asked me to send the part to them. He also said that the groove can be from not tightening the trainer hard enough, which I thought was strange. He said that the tire may spin through and rubb the drum which leaves the indent. I guess I wasn't pushing myself hard enough on the trainer.

I will mail the part to them and hopefully get it back soon because my butt really spent like the stationary bikes in the gym at work but it's good for a change.

Will keep you posted.
Thank you

Here is an update on my problem with the Fluid2 trainer.

I mailed in the whole part of the trainer and a week later ta-daaaa I have a shiny brand new trainer!
Apparently it was still covered under warranty. Thank you CycleOps!

I do leave my bike on the trainer all winter but i do release the rear tire, so it's under pressure only when I ride.

double post

Very nice.
